Historia
As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

Profound, Heartbreaking, Profoundly Heartbreaking
Revisado: 03-25-25
I can’t believe I was looking forward to returning to Panem! I wasn’t sure a Haymitch POV would work for me, but from the first page, I could tell the author came back to this world because she had a lot to say. And boy did she say them. Much like a classic tragedy, we know this can’t end well, but I kept hoping until the last minute. Thankful that she soothes us with the epilogue.

What a way to reread! I’m obsessed with the voice acting, the story comes even further to life - and I’m starting to figure out what it all means haha.

Historia
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Exceptional novel and brilliant voice acting
Revisado: 02-23-25
Gideon the Ninth is one of my all time favorite books. This is the first time I listened to it and an audiobook, though, and the voice acting brought to to LIFE. It made the plot just sing. Absolutely exceptional!

Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Revisado: 01-23-25
I love the concept of a galaxy-ized planet earth! A young human trying to work in an alien-dominated earth city, just trying to make everyone feel valued and their voices heard, it’s aspirational. Maybe once day we’ll be ready for it!

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

Fun, cute, clever!
Revisado: 01-23-25
Really loved this fun story. Mona was a brilliant character, and her dough based powers are really cleverly thought out. I loved her sourdough familiar (BOB!) and gingerbread man defender. Great discussion on what it means to be a hero, and how sad it is we need them. Loved it.

Loved this book. Montell has this passionate way of speaking that can make any subject fascinating. She highlights the different kinds of biases that influence our relationship with information, and now I can’t help but see these tricks in action everywhere I go (recency bias, haha). Thank you!

Wow! I’m so impressed by this chilling book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, equal times angered and disgusted. Tingle has taken the horror of conversion camps and added a whole new level. The worldbuilding was incredibly unique and perfectly woven through the horror. Amazing.

Audie Award, Multi-Voiced Performance, 2016. The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra - who are barely even talking to each other - are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

Revisado: 01-13-20
I’ve always been a fan of this series. The unique storytelling through the files and clippings and IMs were one of a kind: and I thought it was impossible to adapt to an audiobook. Not so: the full cast performance brings so much spirit and heart to the book, it was like reading it for the first time all over again. It was amazing. Highly recommend!
