Scintillating Performance
Revisado: 07-15-23
This story was gripping from start to finish.
The vocal performances were brilliant and en pointe.
I indulgently binged bits of this - only stopping when I simply couldn't continue due to outside commitments - but eagerly returned to it until finished.
The English always get audio dramas right.
This one did not disappoint.

The Voice Actors are Outstanding
Revisado: 04-19-23
This story is a well executed, meticulously plotted slow burn of a ghost story that is satisfying throughout.
The actors are brilliant, particularly the actor portraying Lily, and the prose so blisteringly alive. I listened to it in one hit, not wanting to miss any of it.
10/10.

I got lost in this. Wonderfully submerged in the dramatic experience that was this expertly made performance art.

Yes, Provence is Lovely
Revisado: 11-28-22
I expected this book to be more about the author’s photographic works, fine art and the ways of seeing things differently rather than superlative upon superlative about Provence. It lovely. We get it. But there’s only so much ohmahgahditssobeautiful I can handle.
Narration was good.

Historia
There are times when life feels like it has you cornered: financial difficulties, relationship issues, work problems, all of the above. Every one of us, at one time or another, will have to face up to the challenges that come our way. And there are two ways of meeting them: negatively, where blame is the answer, where other people are at fault, where you haven’t been treated fairly. Or positively, where you own the situation, learn and grow from it and become a better person at the end of it.

Ant Needs Some Mental Health Education
Revisado: 01-28-22
Great book, ticks the boxes but there was one comment which unravelled it all for me.
The comment that people who are diagnosed with PTSD are somehow not up for the job, is a worrying one.
It rips away the clever facade that Middleton is building, perhaps to mask his own insecurities or inadequacies.
An education in mental health would be a good move for this bloke but being typically military likely thinks he is above it all.
I still enjoy his books but recognise now that he has a job to fill which is to write books and churn out as much 'bloke writing' while he can. I respect him but no longer like him as I did.

*blinking*
I’ve just been dragged into a mind engulfing, spellbinding adventure.
And I want to go back in.
What an amazing rendition. Superbly acted, brilliantly casted, the voices lush and utterly believable.
I shall definitely be listening to this again.

SENSATIONAL
Revisado: 06-13-21
Right up there with my favourite Audible listens.
Stories were brilliant but their renditions were moreso.
A narrator makes the story and on many occasions, Audible's casting is dubious and just wrecks what on paper is a cracker tale.
But in this, Audible has nailed it and the highlight is Terry Donnelley. She. Is BRILLIANT. The way she nails that accent and the nuances! I gasped at some of them, recognition from a childhood I thought I'd forgotten.
Listened to this twice.
Pure gold.

Historia
Frederick is a demon. Born in Maryland in the early 1980's, he hasn't a clue where he came from or why, but feels an irresistible desire to occupy a human body. Once inside, he finds the previous occupants' consciousness and memories forever erased, an inevitable side effect that gives Frederick pause when switching bodies, but not so much as to truly halt his ongoing enjoyment of human lives. In various bodies, he travels the world for decades - aimless - sampling cultures and experiencing life from the points of view of males, females, young, old, rich, poor.

Narrator Ruins It
Revisado: 04-26-21
Read the book and you’ll find an ingenious story. Listen to it and you’ll get a lazy swagger that completely misreads the character. And it’s bloody annoying!!!!!
I really wish Audible would be more careful with its casting. A narrator can make or break a book. This one’s munted.

Struck Gold
Revisado: 02-15-21
This title was included in the month's picks and I'm so glad it was.
This book is all about self worth, what we think it is, whether we acknowledge it, how it affects us, our lives and those around us. Talk about profound!
I am naturally averse to life coaches as I find the vast majority of them to be lacklustre or full of it.
Not Meadow. This girl is the real deal.
At first, I was like, okay let's see what you got and gave the title a shot. I'm so glad I did.
Meadow has not only approached a subject I'd not really considered deeply before, but she conveys it with a deep and startling clarity that literally stopped me in my tracks and, I will admit, made me catch a shaky breath on a few occasions. There is nothing so arresting when you recognise yourself in some scenarios and realise why you do. Oh ouch. Yet I listened to this twice and will listen to it again, there is so much wisdom to mine from this.
I was particularly softened by Meadow's barely masked grief as she retold the story of the untimely death of her mother and I felt a rush of gratitude for this brilliant resource she has provided us all.
This is not a reprogramming tool as many life coaches seek to purvey in their tomes but a gift that will gently steer you back on track, recalibrate your compass or just reassure you that you're on the right road. Well worth a listen. Get on it!
