Historia
"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.

A pleasant surprise
Revisado: 04-30-15
It became immensely more enjoyable when I began to realize it is a different genre than most of what I read. I began to appreciate it as similar to a conversation and recollections of memories than an action packed story. Until then, I kept waiting for something to happen... After that realization, I sat back and enjoyed it.

Historia
After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

Voice made me nuts!
Revisado: 04-02-14
Would you try another book from Patricia Cornwell and/or Kate Reading?
Not Kate Reading. Her voice was very annoying and distracting. Each sentence sounded like she was uncommitted to the subject matter. As if each next few words would be "Oh well..." It was very sing-songy and just downright irritating. I finally had to quit listening. The was no "hook" to reel me in that overcame the sounds of the words spoken.
Having read all of Ms Cornwell's previous books, I guess this is one author I'll stick to buying the paperbacks. I'm sure the story deserves another chance, just not as an audiobook. (Whew! I'm not used to feeling so strongly opposed to a product before! You asked...)
What was most disappointing about Patricia Cornwell’s story?
Nothing about the beginning of the book held my interest to overcome the distracting reading.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Reading’s performances?
I think I've made my point that I am terribly disappointed in the style in which she presented the reading. It was not a pleasant experience. She sounded terribly bored with the entire process. I'm sure she is very capable of sounding very interesting and pleasant. The cadence of this reading was not one that I enjoyed.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It was by Patricia Cornwell.
Any additional comments?
Think I was pretty complete!
