Awesome story & performance, but ....
Revisado: 07-21-23
Allyson Ryan really has a way with the character voices, but she needs to learn how the locals pronounce names like Coeur d'Alene, Willamette, Malheur, and Wallowa. Enjoyed the storyline and hope Lavonne will have time to write a sequel . Very good character development. Satisfying end to the story.

Pronounce the words right! But love the story.
Revisado: 07-19-23
I'd have given the narrator a 5 star if she'd just research how to pronounce the words correctly. I've lived in Oregon all my life. I worked for the Malheur Forest Service for 3 years (pronounced like Mal hyur...or even Mal yur...not the French pronunciation). There's a song on YouTube Malheur County Night...go listen. In fact you can find the correct pronunciations on YouTube. Willamette - Will AM ett. Coeur d'Alene - Core d' Lane, Wallowa - wuhl OW uh. At least she gets Umatilla right. She also does a really good job with the characters and voice changes. I really did enjoy Ms. Ryan's narration, except for the mispronunciations.
I went to take a listen when LaVonne Griffen-Valade was made Secretary of State for Oregon this year, after the elected one resigned in disgrace. After reading her resume I wanted to see if she could write a book. I figured there is no way she'd have audible books since she's 70 and only fairly recently published novels. But I was wrong....and I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes, she can write. The character development was well done, as was the storyline. I ended up getting all 4 books currently in production and look forward to when she'll have time to write the 5th.

Historia
Cole Riker is a Slip Runner. A contractor tasked with finding alien salvage in exchange for credits. For an ex-smuggler like Cole, there’s a catch: Don’t break the terms of parole. That means doing things by the book. Find salvage, turn it in, get paid. But everything changes when a retrieval mission lands him in a previously unknown sector. There, he finds the material he’s been sent to recover, along with something more. A brand-new form of ancient alien life.

Great character development for the first book
Revisado: 02-27-23
I loved this book. I got it when it was on sale and wasn't familiar with the author or narrator. I'll definitely be returning to continue the series. The first book developed the characters nicely and made you care about them.
The narrator did a great job with both the male and female voices. I'll definitely be looking for more books narrated by Neill Thorne.
Some of the most memorable moments were the interactions between Cole and his shipboard AI, Poe, and also between Cole and the Alien he called Gray.
I was surprised by the use of guns with bullets, though. I would have expected something more advanced. It didn't detract from the storyline, however.

Wow! I didn't see this end coming.
Revisado: 04-28-22
Just when you think you know what's going on, you don't. I loved this. The plot twists, and timeline twists, and the unexpected ending. Truly, I didn't foresee any of what the direction was for the plot which actually was refreshing, yet was explained so it made sense. The narrator was excellent, and I enjoyed the character development. There wasn't a lot of extraneous repetition so I wasn't bored and wasn't tempted to fast forward past anything. My only complaint is that I could totally see this developed into a series, but it is a stand-alone novel. Very worth the credit (though I think I got this on sale.)

Overall excellent, just a minor quibble.
Revisado: 04-05-22
I really appreciate that these novels area shorter than many. There isn't a lot of extraneous, unessential detail. Not a lot of repetitious, tedious second guessing your moves and rehashing something over and over ad nauseum. The story moves along at a good clip without feeling like you are missing any details. I do have one thing I'd contradict as for one of the survival issues. When Landon gets blisters Beth pops them. I'd always been taught, that if possible, it's better to leave the blisters alone. They protect the new forming skin below and provide a sterile environment for new skin growth underneath. Once you pop them you expose them to the environment and possible infection. And one other thing....always listen to your dog!

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Stayed up way too late listening
Revisado: 10-05-21
I really enjoyed this book. The narrator did a wonderful job. The descriptions made me feel like I could see what was going on. I became attached to the characters and thought there was good character development. Even though I know I could put the book away and come back to listen later, I found myself staying up way too late at night to listen to just a little bit more, because I had to find out what happened next, so I COULD go to sleep!

Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Outstanding Narration
Revisado: 01-30-21
I have the book narrated by Rob Inglis. I have always enjoyed Tolkien's Hobbit/Lord of the Rings series, but Andy Serkis narration is outstanding. He really makes the characters come to life. His Gollum is so well done! If you have a choice between the two books get this one! I hope The Lord of the Rings series is redone with Andy Serkis as narrator. I would definitely spend the credits to purchase them.

Excellent performance reminds me of Anna Fields
Revisado: 06-10-20
I enjoyed this book. It is a typical Susan Elizabeth Phillips romance. I always enjoy SEP's witty snark, humor, and characters. There was only really one surprise in the book, but it wasn't a far leap of credulity.
A narrator, though, can make or break an audio book. Nicole Poole did a spectacular job in the flavor of the late Anna Fields (who narrated SEP's early novels). I have a feeling I will be looking to see what other audio books Ms. Poole has narrated....

My name's Griz. I've never been to school, I've never had friends, and in my whole life I've not met enough people to play a game of football. My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, before all the people went away. But we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other and our dogs. Then the thief came.

Beautifully told story
Revisado: 10-18-19
The ending isn't quite what I was expecting, but I loved this story from beginning to end. There was a lot of foreshadowing in the telling, but the result still wasn't what I was expecting for all of that. There were a couple of unexpected twists or outcomes to the story, but by the end I was satisfied. Though I'm sure this is a stand alone book I would like to hear more stories from Griz, especially in Griz's world. Griz, though young, seems to have an innate sense about learning and understanding other people's true character. I think the narrator did a fine job capturing the essence of the main character while telling Griz's story.
