One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

I enjoyed this story very much. I like it being told out of order and by three different POV. Eve (Mia’s mother), Collin (A.K.A Owen – who is the kidnapper) and Gabe the Detective on the case.

The chapters were short which made for a quick read/listen as the story was able to hold my attention. I also was impressed that this was a debut novel; even though I’ve read Mary’s other work first.

I also loved that this wasn’t just a mystery read but IMHO a bit of romantic side of things too. I literally cried in the end. Not many, mysteries/thrillers make me cry 😂 I just loved Collin’s whole character, the narrator Tom Taylorson, he’s voice and the character gave me Joe Goldberg vibes. Idky. But I loved it. I also LOVED LOVED LOVED the ending twist. I couldn’t believe it. I highly recommend this one.

“I can assume he wasn’t hugged a whole lot. His family didn’t pray before dinner. They didn’t go camping or snuggle together on the couch for movie night. I can assume his father never helped him with his algebra homework. I can guess that at least once, someone forgot to pick him up from school. I can guess that at some point in his life, no one was paying attention to what he watched on TV. And I can guess that he’s been smacked across the face by someone who should’ve known better, someone he trusted.” ― Mary Kubica, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡

Emma Averell loves her life—her high-powered legal career, her two beautiful children, and her wonderful stay-at-home husband—but it wasn’t always so perfect.

When she was just five years old, Emma and her older sister went into foster care because of a horrific incident with their mother and so Emma desperately wants to keep her successful life separate from her past.

But then she’s unable to sleep, and now losing time during the day, also one of the first symptoms her mother showed. Is the madness in her blood, just as her mother predicted? Could she end up hurting her family in her foggy, frenetic state? Or is she truly beginning to lose her mind?

Ⓜⓨ Ⓣⓗⓞⓤⓖⓗⓣⓢ

Pinborough knows how to write a book to keep you guessing. And if you have read any of her works in the past, you know nothing is at is seems. I liked the first half of the book a lot more than the ending. I enjoyed the craziness of this novel and the strange things that start happening, confirming Emma is losing her grip on reality and scaring her family.

However, one thing I noticed and got a bit overdone by was the tedious and receptiveness of the book. Night after night Emma wandering around her house, checking the doors, muttering to herself, and peeping in on her sleeping children. I was ready to move on after night 3.

The mystery part was weird in the end. I was not ready for a paranormal / sci-fi type of answers. What I didn't see coming was the reasoning behind it. No one will really see that one coming and in my opinion, it isn't very plausible. But that's just me.

I shouldn't have to express that I adore these two authors. I think they are fabulous and make a great duo team. But this novel just didn't hit it for me.

This story is told in two points of view, that of Dr Shields, the alluring, manipulative therapist conducting a survey on ethics and morality, and Jess, the unlucky participant that has drawn the attention of Dr Shields.

Dr Shields sees Jess as a suitable person for a more personal agenda and so begins the process of grooming and manipulating her. It's clear that the chapters narrated by Dr Shields are meant to have a creepy feel but the atmosphere falls flat. Jess is likeable enough, devastatingly flawed and a victim of her own secrets.

I'm all for a slow burn but this book burns so slow it extinguished itself by the 50% mark and never really becomes engaging throughout. There were times I was a bit bored wanting it to end.

The synopsis for this book paints a picture of a story more psychologically frightening than is actually between the pages.

There are no twists in this book, no gasping moments, no real sense of mystery. The ending is just blah and completely farfetched. This one just didn't work for me.

I'm okay with this book not working for me, because I know these two talented ladies have created amazing work and I know they will in the future too.

The first thing you should know, dear reader, is that 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝…

He might just be the answer to all of her problems. And Pippa can tell the truth from lies. She’d know if she were in danger. Wouldn’t she?

Ⓜⓨ Ⓣⓗⓞⓤⓖⓗⓣⓢ

I have no idea what I just listened to. 🤔 I can tell you that I loved it! This has been S.E Lynes craziest book yet. The writing and planning that took place within these pages were undoubtfully questionable. But in only the best way possible! There were many moments of casted off glances. Questioning "What in the world"? Thoughts of "Is she crazy"? "Does Ryan exist at all"? "Who is Mrs. Danvers." She's from "𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒄𝒂" right?

From the moment that Pippa opened the door to Ryan I was on the crazy train with these two! Neither of these characters were likable, neither of these characters were relatable, but wow were they addicting!

The novel reads by using blog posts and journal entries and audio recordings between Pippa & Ryan. It was as disjointed and disconcerting as everything else about the book. But this made that book so brilliant! At times I felt as mad & crazy as these characters were! This is the kind of book that you read the ending twice, because your just looking like 🤯 what the actual f*c*??? And the twists!! OMG! LOVE IT! This book.... there are no words! Read it! I'd recommend the audio version, but that's just me.

I don't know about you but I do love a twisty jaw-dropping psychological thriller! One with clever plot-twists and interesting backstories! This really was an unputdownable story! I like my thrillers fast paced and I don't think you'll be disappointed with this one. I do recall reading a similar book like this sometime ago but I still enjoyed this one just as much because both were different in their own ways. I can definitely see why Freida's books are all so highly rated, I'll be sure to read more of her in the future.

⚠️ 𝗕𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥: If you or a loved one has considered or completed suicide, DO NOT read this book! Acts of suicide, death, serious mental health, light violence.

Wow! I don't even know where to begin with this book. It might just be the most craziness, unbelievably impossible book I have EVER listened. Volunteers at 'End of the Line' hotline are there to listen to their callers with the utmost kindness, respect, and professionalism. From domestic abuse to rape, money and marriage troubles and those who are suicidal, the volunteers hear it all; They are there simply to listen and never judge. Everyone is there to help others through their difficult times, well everyone except Laura who has her own agenda. Instead of offering what most End of the Line volunteers do, she subtly convinces those contemplating suicide to take their own life.

Many of you know that I am a BIG person on mental health. I made it through this shocking storyline, crazy plot and it was it brilliant! It was hard not to enjoy the craziness of this novel. A sort of love/hate kind of thing going on and if you haven’t noticed with many of the books I've currently read as of lately, John Marrs has really become an absolute favorite of mine.

If you are looking psychological thriller, something really dark, controversial, well written and uncomfortably captivating, this is definitely the book for you.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒏 is a novel that will stand out in my mind for a very long time to come. It is dark, twisted and had me going through so many emotions. One of the most unique and stand out story lines I have ever read! A story that you will love to hate.

“For the more vulnerable out there, once the darkness falls, so do their barriers. Night-time is their enemy, because with fewer visible distractions there’s more opportunity to dwell on how hopeless their lives have become.” ― John Marrs, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒏

Ⓢⓨⓝⓞⓟⓢⓘⓢ/Ⓜⓨ Ⓣⓗⓞⓤⓖⓗⓣⓢ

Look out dear readers. An irresistible psychological thriller featuring a newly married woman whose life is turned upside down when her husband goes missing.

Newlyweds Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say good-bye to New York and start a life together in Sam's sleepy hometown in upstate New York.

Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female) clientele. Little does Sam know that through a vent in his ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs.

Everything is fine until the French girl in the green Mini-Cooper shows up, and Sam decides to go to work and not come home, throwing a wrench into Sam and Annie's happily ever after.

This book was so much fun. I flew through it in less than 24 hours. Ever read a book and you are constantly going back, because you wanted to make sure you didn’t miss anything? That was me in this book. There are multiple twists throughout and you are going to love the first one! I also found the ending very satisfying.

This book contains some clever writing. I had to stop and listen to some parts over to wrap my mind around it. There was definitely some heart pounding going on. I recommend you read this book if you are into some clever & surprising twists.

Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…
Cora thinks her husband, Finn, is cheating—she just needs to catch him in the act. Paige lost her son to a hit-and-run last year, and she’s drowning in the kind of grief that makes people do reckless things. Like spying on the locals, searching for proof that her son’s death was no accident. And agreeing to Cora’s plan to reveal what kind of man Finn really is. All the while, their reclusive new neighbor, Georgia, is acting more strangely every day. But what could such a lovely young mother possibly be hiding?

🄼🅈 🅃🄷🄾🅄🄶🄷🅃🅂

Wow! One of the best domestic dramas I’ve read in a long time! Absolutely glued to listening to this one. I’ve never been one to really socialize with my neighbors. I live in an apartment complex and have so for a while now. Many have come and gone. But some have stayed we give the occasional nod once in a while.

I don't want to give too much away from this story but this gated community of Brighton Hills, wealthy families feel they are protected from the outside world. But are they safe from each-other?

We have the POV's of three-woman Paige, Cora and Georgia each are going through their own dark secrets. In general, the husbands are stereotypes of who not to marry. (There is one good one, but I will leave out the identity so that other readers will be surprised.) The plot is well-developed with plenty of twists and action.

Highly recommend this thrilling read!

⚠️Be prepared there are dark themes of abuse, gaslighting and infidelity (among other horrible behaviors).

“You know what someone once told me? Secrets are like arseholes. We all have them. It’s
just that some are dirtier than others.” ― C.J. Tudor, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒌 𝑴𝒂𝒏

In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy little English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code; little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.

In 2016, Eddie is fully grown, and thinks he's put his past behind him. But then he gets a letter in the mail, containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank . . . until one of them turns up dead.

🄼🅈 🅃🄷🄾🅄🄶🄷🅃🅂

I was just a little disappointed with this story. I was told good things about this book and it just wasn't as exciting as I thought it was going to be. This book just happens to be CJ Tudor's debut novel. But my first book I read by her was actually "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔" and I enjoyed that one very much.

This story seemed a bit all over the place with many things to solve. If certain things hadn't happened the outcomes would have been a lot better and lives wouldn't have been lost.

This book did not have me guessing till the end. I didn't really feel invested in it. I didn't really connect well with the characters. One thing I enjoyed about the characters is how they were childhood friends and that their friendships reminding me of something quite familiar such as -'𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛' in Stephen King's "𝑰𝑻" and since these friends did come across a body it reminded me of the group of friends in "𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐲 𝐌𝐞" A.K.A "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒅𝒚" by Stephen King.

All in all, I will still be giving this author another shot. I always give new to me authors 3 shots. So, right now it's 1-1 with Tudor's books. 😉
