Disappointed but still worth a listen!

I’ve read every single book of Jude Deveraux’ over the years. I’ve grown up with them from 15 to now 45. But this one had ZERO romance. There were GREAT characters and intrigue. Wonderful banter and enjoyment! But I would have loved another 2 chapters to tie up the end. The murder gets solved, but my heart is not fulfilled.

A Beautiful Tribute to a brave family in war-time!

With the odds against them, this Polish-Jewish family worked bravely to survive the worst hate-crimes in the 20th century! The author, a granddaughter of the patriarch & matriarch of the family, captures the horrors inflicted on so many by an evil dictator and a disdainful, and often, unsympathetic society.
It's so important to share these stories, so future generations can learn that this extermination of Jews was a factual event. We MUST learn from history, so we do not repeat it. Or at least, we are aware of the signs of danger.

Beautiful testament to Family, friends, and God bringing peace

I enjoyed the story full of secrets emerging through God's plan and the growth of friendship and love. I would have liked for a little more completion of Reese's plans for the future....an epilogue or something to tie up things better. But the story was great.

Heartbreakingly poignant story of Poland during WWII

I love reading a book and learning about historical events through others' perspectives. This book, while fiction, is based on actual things that happened in Poland by the Polish Gentiles and Jews. Once neighbors and acquaintances, through political unrest, the neighbors became anti-Semitic. I feel that this sense of bloodlust happened throughout all of Europe in the early 20th century. But their are heroic individuals weaved throughout, as in real life.
