Historia
“I’m sorry but the answer’s no.” Reluctant author, Anthony Horowitz, has had enough. He tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne that after three books he’s splitting and their deal is over. The truth is that Anthony has other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the Vaudeville Theater in London’s West End. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is panned by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Margaret Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

Another Triumph
Revisado: 01-02-24
Another great mashup of fact and fiction is the life of the character of Horowitz. This tale centers around a murder connected to Horowitz's real-life theater play in the West End "Mindgame". Hawthorne's past and personal life remain enigmatic, and it becomes more apparent that he isn't always truthful about with the information he does volunteer.

Historia
Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

Lives Up to the Legacy of the Character.
Revisado: 01-02-24
In the Hawthorne and Horowitz series the character of Horowitz mentioned that he's been selected by the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write a new official Sherlock Holmes novel. I thought, "Wow this guy really does think highly of himself."
THEN I FOUND OUT THAT WAS A THING THAT HAPPENED IN REALITY!
Taking on the mantle of the best known detective in the history of mysteries is a huge task and Horowitz does so admirably. Classic Holmes.

It started with the letters… For actress Meribel Mills, disturbing fan mail is part of the price of fame. So when she starts getting creepy letters written in fruit-scented marker she’s mostly unfazed. But there’s something different about Marker Man…

Solid Creepy Thriller
Revisado: 01-02-24
Like the two previous novels by Jackson this was a solid B+ narrative to me. She writes thrillers I like a lot not love, but I never feel as if I wasted my time. The villains are creepy, and there's plenty of twists.

Entertaining Thriller
Revisado: 01-02-24
Like other of Jackson's books it's good not great, but a fun listen all around. The ending fell a little flat for me, but didn't ruin the book as a whole. Definitely will be getting more of her work.

Historia
When ex-detective inspector Daniel Hawthorne and his sidekick, author Anthony Horowitz, are invited to an exclusive literary festival on Alderney, an idyllic island off the south coast of England, they don’t expect to find themselves in the middle of murder investigation - or to be trapped with a cold-blooded killer in a remote place with a murky, haunted past.

Small Town British Murder.
Revisado: 01-02-24
The third in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series. The two attend a literary festival on an isolated island in the English Channel and quickly bodies start piling up. Everything I loved about the first two and more time spent with a pair of characters that I love.

Historia
“You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late....” These, heard over the phone, were the last recorded words of successful celebrity-divorce lawyer Richard Pryce, found bludgeoned to death in his bachelor pad with a bottle of wine - a 1982 Chateau Lafite worth £3,000, to be precise. Odd, considering he didn’t drink. Why this bottle? And why those words? And why was a three-digit number painted on the wall by the killer? And, most importantly, which of the man’s many, many enemies did the deed?

The New York Times best-selling author of Magpie Murders and Moriarty brilliantly reinvents the classic crime novel once again with this clever and inventive mystery starring a fictional version of the author himself as the Watson to a modern-day Holmes, investigating a case involving buried secrets, murder, and a trail of bloody clues.

What If a Self-Insert Fanfiction Was *REALLY* Good
Revisado: 01-02-24
It took me a moment to realize in this new series Horowitz is a character within his own novel. For most authors this would be a recipe for disaster, but as with Magpie Murders Horowitz proves he is not most authors. Great mystery, the character of private investigator Daniel Hawthorne is clever and unique and Horowitz isn't afraid to cast his character as the clues sidekick who is always one step behind the detecrtive.

Historia
In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

Exactly What I Was Expecting. Brilliant.
Revisado: 01-02-24
Disclaimer: Tarantino is my favorite director, so I'm biased as hell.
Tarantino moves though his from childhood to young adulthood. Each chapter focuses on a particular film, but also gives the context of Hollywood around the time of its release. An added bonus is that Tarantino's descriptions of his youth and upbringing serve as an origin story for him.

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Simply (but by no means simple) Brilliant
Revisado: 01-02-24
A book within a book and both fantastic mysteries. The book begins with fictional rave reviews for the fictional character Atticus Pünd, a shockingly high bar to set. Horowitz delivers and then some. Can't recommend Magpie Murders enough.
