Before I Wake is a thriller fan's dream, a rich, resonant collection that reminds us, once again, of its author's enduring and unmistakable importance. This is popular fiction as it should be written. It doesn't get better than this.

All These Years
Revisado: 03-12-25
I’ve been a fan of David Morrell’s from his first book through this last, “Before I Wake.” I’ve purchased every copy, a few of them more than once. BIW doesn’t have the grit of Rambo or the elegance of the deGuency novels, but it is a perfect listen for a quiet night. The stories hold your interest, and you look forward to hearing the stories unfold. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy his every word.

Again, Daniel Silva wrote a beautiful, provocative tale that made me so glad I was along for the ride. I couldn't wait to "turn the page" and then was so sad when the last paragraph was read. Please keep writing.

Hard to believe Catherine Coulter wrote this book
Revisado: 03-20-24
Catherine Coulter's series "A Brit in the FBI" was so good that my expectations were high. Each Brit book felt fresh and read like she enjoyed writing each page but not so with Impulse. After 2 chapters of Impulse, my "Impulse" was to change books. Unfortunately, I was recovering from surgery and my circumstances made it too difficult to switch books or I would have. The language of this book was stilted, the dialogue stiff, and the story line improbable. The romantic sex scenes were boring - really boring and the last two chapters where things were being brought together felt rushed and poorly thought out.

Needed Serious Editing
Revisado: 10-06-23
I normally love Nelson DeMille’s every word but this book needed serious editing. It became an effort to continue reading the same thing over and over. And the constant smart ass comments were inappropriate and demeaning to the main character. All this said - I’ll happily read another NDM novel.

Poor Letty Has No Voice
Revisado: 04-18-23
Ardent readers and listeners can't help but compare John Sanford's other serial books. In the Prey series the story and its' protagonist, Lucas Davenport, work in harmony. At times, the Prey storyline has preeminence and at other times, it's make no mistake , this book is about Lucas Davenport! And more importantly, Lucas Davenport had a voice, a gravelly, take no nonsense voice, in Richard Ferrone. Every word is believable.
Virgil Flowers also has a voice in Eric Conger. The voice catches Virgil, knows Virgil, and tells us Virgil's story in concert with the story line.
Poor Letty does not have "a voice." Mr. Petkoff, the narrator, tells us a story but he's not a believable Letty. The story itself is more about the story and much less about developing Letty's character. The few opportunities the narrator had to flesh her out he missed in a flat voice.
All this said, I did stay with it to the end but I was left unimpressed.

What does Cain and Superman have in common?
Revisado: 02-01-21
Answer - Boredom. This is not Brad Meltzer's best effort. The story is slow, the characters are not the least bit likeable, the plot is improbable. Not even the efforts of the great narrator, Scott Brick, could blow life into this book. I gave up 6 hours into it.

I’ll never look at Chestnuts in the same way
Revisado: 04-14-20
A near perfect book! A story line as intricate as a spider web that the author, and the reader, guide you through with subtly. The characters are likable but not lovable befitting their roles. The twists keep you guessing and the ending is, indeed, a surprise. The Chestnut Man is the author’s first book. I look forward to more.
