Revisado: 05-13-22
Please do another one! When I say this series was like binging the best show on your favorite streaming provider, it really is true! It was so much fun and I loved every hour I spent with Sara, Ivy, and my favorite Alisha! Alisha’s personality reminds me a lot of the character Frankie from Molly Harper’s Ain’t She a Peach, and it’s so refreshing to listen to these books. I love them! I hope you do too!

Historia
If 14-year-old Cassandra Reed makes it through her first day at Miss Castwell’s Institute for the Magical Instruction of Young Ladies without anyone discovering her secret, maybe, just maybe, she’ll let herself believe that she really does belong at Miss Castwell’s. Except Cassandra Reed’s real name is Sarah Smith and up until now, she lived her whole life in the Warren, serving a magical family, the Winters, as all non-magical “Snipes” are bound by magical Guardian law to do. That is, until one day, Sarah accidentally levitates Mrs. Winter’s favorite vase in the parlor....

I love Molly Harper! Changelings=100!!
Revisado: 04-20-22
When I found out Molly Harper had a new book coming out that was part of an existing series that had previous releases, I hopped in the Audible time machine and I downloaded this book! As usual, it did not disappoint! I love her stories. And yes you heard me right, stories, there is always stories inside these novels like episodes in a television show with each book being a new season! This is literally Bridgerton meets Legacies Season 1! I love it. I really wish there was a gay couple in just one of her books though. I know with all the politicians that wanna silence authors and their writings with puritanical laws that threaten our very existence as humans, gay people do exist, and it would be nice to be represented in just one of these books. As an aging Millennial, I can relate to being the adults in the books since I have teenagers, but also still remember what it was like to be young, and Molly Harper does such a good job at melding together such a beautiful picture of families and friends. She’s also gifted in showing that the haves and the have nots can simultaneously both contributing members in society while also not being enemies, and we basically do it every day. It would be cool to have story with gay dads, being part of a same sex couple who has raised a family, It’s not what you see on the news. We were treated kindly and so was the kids. I was basically a local celebrity in our small school district when the kids was going to school. We was accepted as well as the kids were, and so don’t believe all the hate that gets preached on tv and social media, it’s not all like that in the real world. That is what I love about these books, Molly Harper is so gifted in that she seems to know regular people, and I wouldn’t doubt she has a gay friend or two. I know she has to have a lot of fans that are gay, because I love her! Molly Harper and Amanda Ranconni are superstars to me. I literally couldn’t turn Audible off after listening to this book on the drive home. I literally never even turned on my television tonight because I had to finish this book! Now it’s off to begin Fledglings! I’m so excited. I wish it wasn’t so late because I know I’m gonna love it. I love that Audible is a CarPlay app also, I love listening in the car! So get off Facebook, take a break from the news, and download a sweet and fun Molly Harper novel and let Amanda Ronconni narrate it for you! I highly recommend it! It really makes me very happy. Keep up the superb work!

Historia
Alice Comstock has always been a dutiful wife and an attentive mother, a perfectionist presiding over a flawless home. She’s reliably been her family’s center, the caretaker and problem-solver, until an illness requires her children to assume responsibility for their mother. For Adam, Alice’s youngest, a return home to California sparks a memory of his younger self. Alternating between the present and flashbacks to Adam’s college years, "There Are Flowers in Ohio" explores how the paths not taken shape all of our lives.

Ugh, such a waste of time
Revisado: 03-14-22
I thought this was gonna be a quick little escape and I kept waiting on it to become interesting but it’s not! I can’t believe this even got published much less acted into an original. Don’t waste your time. I want some happy gay stories. Being gay isn’t all doom and gloom or drag shows! Please stop putting us in those two boxes! It’s either the closet or you’re in a dress, there is no in between. I recommend bringing more gay people into the board room. We need a seat at the table and be able to speak up. Not just be happy we are being represented but be represented on spectrum, and not a sexuality spectrum, but most gay people live normal lives and it’s time we start to see that represented in our media. I’ve seen better representation in ads on the internet and on television than what was provided in this! This is terrible and your gonna be left feeling sad, and not the good kind of sad, not the cathartic kind of sad, just sad, if you listen to this.

Kelsey is known around the office for having everything under control. So it's not surprising that she and her boss, Sadie, have everything planned to the second for the office winter retreat. But there are things even Kelsey can't micromanage. An unprecedented snowstorm smothers half of Kentucky and knocks out the power, closes the roads, and generally shuts down the state.

I love these
Revisado: 03-13-22
These books are so great. I loved the character of Kelsie throughout the past 2 books in the series, so finding out Kelsie gets her own storyline in the series was exciting, and it didn’t disappoint. These books are a lot of fun, and I find the characters so relatable. Geographically, I live and have family in the areas of where these books in her series take place, and I don’t know about Molly Harper personally, but she definitely doesn’t seem to be faking the areas and the people. They are definitely spot on. I love how she illustrates people from the South. Her characters have fully rounded personalities, and she does a great job portraying Southerners as more than who we are often depicted as in current tv and screen. We aren’t all backwoods and ignorant, even the ones of us who are from the backwoods. She shows that Southerners have reasons for the things they do and the way they think, and these books do a great job at expressing that. I mean literally these characters could be my family or friends. That’s how relatable they are.
Now let’s talk about the “adult scene” in this one. They are very adult if you know what I mean, I was kinda shocked because I don’t search that out but it was tasteful. Although, if you have a kid or something that listens to Audible, this book might not be appropriate for someone underage. That’s all, I personally am not offended, but just know she paints a pretty clear picture in this book.
Please, buy these books, all of them!
Especially when Amanda Ronconi narrates them, she seems to bring these books to life. I literally will turn off the tv while at home, just to listen to Audible. I highly recommend this series and the Southern Gothic Series. They are worth it!

Love Molly Harper books
Revisado: 03-03-22
They are light and fun, but I could do with a little less “yelps” and a little more complexity to the female characters. Her books always seem to only characterize about 4-5 different versions of both male and female characters to be honest but they are still really fun to listen to!! Amanda Ronconi really brings the books to life with the voices and the full on performance she seems to give these books!

Ah, remember ye olde days when the family would gather around the giant Philco radio and listen to serials? You don’t? We don’t either. But apparently that’s how Cinnamon Bear was born on November 26, 1937, as the star of a holiday season cliff-hanger-style children’s radio series. We hear it was quite the rage!

This would make such a sweet Christmas family movie
Revisado: 01-21-22
I keep singing, “Here is the Cinnamon Bear” to myself randomly throughout the day! I was looking for Christmas productions to listen to, and this one was wonderful. I wish I could have finished it before Christmas but it’s still super sweet! Please everyone take your time, and listen to the music and the story, it’s really wonderful for everyone of all ages. I’m not a child and haven’t been for years but I still love the holidays and I love the Audible “radio show” performances! It’s really odd how tv completely replaced radio so fast, and this reminds me of what it must have been like years ago for people when they would gather around the radio rather than the tv. I love Audible because I can keep my hands and eyes available to drive and do chores while also being entertained. Audible needs more of these storied performances. I still stand by my review title though, this would be a great movie, because a lot of kids can’t sit still to listen to it and parents won’t even try so I hope someone picks it up and makes it into the production it deserves. It would awesome if done like Jim Henson, I can see the characters like characters from Labyrinth. Ryan Reynolds as Santa also was a hilarious choice. This is literally packed full of celebrities voices who you will recognize immediately if you miss the credits in the beginning. So I hope everyone enjoys the Cinnamon Bear as much as I did! It really is still a good story for this time of year. Enjoy!

This could easily be a book written in part based on my own family! I thought of my own mother and grandmother and their complicated relationship. I now understand things about my own upbringing that I didn’t understand before, and I appreciate the prospective. I do wish there had been a better conclusion but I’ll let you listen for yourself to see if you agree or not! This is a great book!

It’s good but…..
Revisado: 05-07-21
Americans Gods is a wonderful story and the author is a wonderful storyteller. There is some wonderful parts inside this edition, but overall it’s convoluted and at times hard to follow. It is way too long as well and there are times when the story will pickup in a place or reference something that is missing from this edition so if you haven’t read the original or watched the show you probably wouldn’t be able to follow it. I’m guessing since it’s like 24 hours long and the author wanted to include everything he had left out previously, they still had to make cut somewhere. Some of the important details were left out so not to skip the parts that are long, but needed to be long. This edition literally doesn’t even tell you why the author keeps telling the coming to America stories until almost the end of the book, and that’s a problem, because when you’re listening to it as an audiobook you don’t understand why there is all these random stories just pumped into the novel. Also, this edition doesn’t explain “Aunt Nancy” well at all! I waited to see if it was ever going to clear it up, but it never does. Also, this book requires a lot of your own research. At least to a typical American. The gods and how the author uses several different names to reference the same god, it can get confusing. It’s overall a very good book, I love the way he includes the actual American landscape as the backdrop to the book. The author had to visit these places because I’ve been to a few of them in my own life as well. This author makes the mistake of just assuming we know what’s in his head and omits details you will need to understand this book. So just trust and be patient when you feel lost, what’s missing you can find online, or in my opinion you can just ignore and it won’t change the overall story.

In 1960, Ishmael Reed, then an aspiring young writer, interviewed Malcolm X for a local radio station in Buffalo, and the encounter cost Reed his job and changed his life. In Malcolm and Me, Reed, the author of such classic novels as Mumbo Jumbo and the winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, reveals a side of Malcolm X the public has never seen before, and explores how the civil rights firebrand influenced his own views on working and living and speaking out, and left a mark on generations of artists and activists.

I actually thought I was gonna appreciate black history by listening to this book. Please do your due diligence before purchasing books written by this author. If I hadI known this book was written to defend Black Nationalism, I would have not purchased it. I denounce White Nationalism and Black Nationalism. I denounce all forms of Nationalism, regardless of race. It’s all the same, and it’s toxic and dangerous at this time in our history to be idolizing the violent tendencies of Black and White Nationalists.
