Charming and Heartfelt
Revisado: 10-18-23
This book was a delight to listen to. Caroline Lee has proven once again her tremendous narrative skills and talent.
The story was outrageous at times and each character was engaging and entertaining. The storyline drew me in immediately and I had a difficult time hitting the pause button when I had to go.
I could imagine this being a stage play. If it ever becomes one, I will definitely go see it.

I had to return this book. The characters had no redeeming qualities. The narrator was excellent as Caroline Lee always is.

Historia
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

Getting Darker
Revisado: 09-14-21
This is the 3rd Paula Hawkins novel that I have listened to. This was by far one of her darker stories. I almost stopped listening twice. The second time, I realized I only had an hour of listening left. I had a long drive and decided to go ahead and finish it. I've become more aware of how there are so many stories now of nothing good happening to anyone in the story. This is one of those stories. Although the ending did provide for 2-3 characters in a better situation than at the beginning of the book.
Hawkins does have a gift of character development. You learn about each one's story and mindset. Hawkins even made fun of herself a little as she bounced around from one time frame to another and then had a character in the story express annoyance about an author in the story who did the same.
In contrast, I was also listening to Julianna Margulies new book "Sunshine Girl". So, when I noticed that this story was getting too dark, I just switched over to that one for a lighter mood.
I'm not sure if I'll read another one of her stories. It will depend on my mood and how long of a drive I have. And I'll make sure I have a lighter book to switch over to if I need to brighten things up.
Rosamund Pike's narration was outstanding. I often found myself wondering how she kept track of all the voice intonations of all the characters. Very impressive indeed!

Pretty Good Until Political View
Revisado: 02-14-20
I listened to this book almost all the way through. She’s humorous for sure, and her stories are engaging. I had about 15 minutes left to listen to when she delved into her conflict with friends who didn’t agree with her politics. I don’t understand that. It makes me wonder how good of a friend she was to them.
I quit then and there. Very disappointing after all of her triumphs.

Genius
Revisado: 02-07-19
This narration about Alan Arkin's experiences with life and the mystical are simply profound. He does not propose anything here, simply relates a few stories from his life and how these events affected him spiritually. There's so much richness in his story telling that I found myself returning to it time and again. I was moved by his stories and affected mostly by the simplicity of his description about what meditation has done for him throughout his life. As a teacher of meditation, I sometimes struggle with how to describe what meditation is, but as Mr. Arkin describes, the description flows better if the person you are trying to explain it to demonstrates true inquiry about meditation. This resonates with me, as I have never been able to describe meditation to someone who doesn't want to know more. There's no "selling" meditation to anyone. I have always been drawn to Alan Arkin as an actor. His subtle humor leaves me laughing out loud on most occasions. And so I bought this from Audible without even knowing what it was about. Much to my pleasant surprise, it was exactly what I needed to hear for my chosen profession. What a gift and blessing!

Historia
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

Everyone in the entire world should read this book!
Revisado: 07-18-18
The first thing that I was most impressed by in this book was the amount of dedication and research that the author had put into her topic. The second area that compelled me was the author’s sharing of her own story as she explained the importance of self compassion throughout all aspects of our lives. I will recommend this book to everyone that I meet. The only thing that I will not suggest is that they listen to this book, because the narrator had a voice that was too dramatic. Plus, the exercises in the book really should be done, and if this book is only listened to, the likelihood of the listener to partake in those exercises is decreased.

Nice performance; story line unrealistic
Revisado: 07-02-18
Steadman does a good job of setting up the plot line. Lots of thorough descriptions to familiarize us with the main character. The performance was very enjoyable. Steadman’s acting skills shine. I also liked the technical sound recording used for voices on the other end of the phone. The only reason I give the story 3 stars is because about 75% of the story line was completely unbelievable.

Great Summer Read/Listen
Revisado: 08-03-17
Would you listen to The Identicals again? Why?
I was thinking about this today, how much I am enjoying this story. And I would listen to it again. It's full of wonderful components about what it means to be family. The characters are so enjoyable to get to know. They are engaging without seeming too fictional.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Identicals?
I loved the dramatic scenes like Sadie throwing a drink in Tabitha's face and also the party at the store to bring in more business.
What does Erin Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Not sure. She does a great job with voices of each character, but her narrator's voice is a bit drab. I found myself getting annoyed whenever she read the phrase "she says". In other words, when she was reading the dialogue of each character and the writing indicates who is speaking, when she says the word "says" it's not a pleasant sound. Weird thing to be bothered by, I know, but for some reason, it was distracting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not really. It's too long and I like to savor books.
Any additional comments?
I haven't actually finished it. I have about 30 minutes left, but I really love the story and wanted to be sure to write a review while I had time and it was still fresh in my mind.
