the courage and humanity of the protagonist
Revisado: 12-23-23
The evolution of Young Kelly from a cynical, insecure boy, estranged from his patriarchy and mother into the courageous yet modest Captain of men was a beautiful, yet masterfully written, believable story.
I loved the 2 supporting characters as much. The loyal and lovable Garello was like Samwise to his Frodo in their affection and friendship.
But the Young teenage beauty snd childhood playmate Charlie was as rich in character.
This must be made into a screenplay a la Winds of War.

Historia
The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse is the most comprehensive and helpful audiobook on the topic of covert narcissism. This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

A dangerous book with strong conviction but with a weak authority
Revisado: 12-11-23
Author was driven to prove her "CN" hypothesis without any peer authority, peer data references, rational or psycho-scientific confirmation.
Much like Donald Trump when he says "everybody knows it" she repeatedly referenced dozens of accounts of victims of CN's ALWAYS describing their feelings od abuse being "exactly the same word" or incredibly diverse victims have the exact same feelings or symptoms. Recounting rememembered client statements as truth is how Narcissists try to control their readers

The Enneagram is one of the most robust and informative tools for investigating some of the deeper layers of the self, yet the full power of it is not always taught. Leading scholar Russ Hudson teaches, “Too often, the Enneagram is viewed as a set of simple personality types that lock us into fixed ideas about ourselves. In reality, it’s a dynamic tool for transformation.” With The Enneagram: Nine Gateways to Presence, Hudson shares an in-depth audio training on how to use this powerful system the way it was originally intended.

All great leaders, thinkers, artists, athletes, and visionaries share one indelible quality. It enables them to conquer their tempers. To avoid distraction and discover great insights. To achieve happiness and do the right thing. Ryan Holiday calls it stillness - to be steady while the world spins around you. In this book, he outlines a path for achieving this ancient, but urgently necessary way of living.

Stillness is Not Hobbies and Sleep
Revisado: 09-25-22
I generally love Holiday's books.,and enjoyed again much of his content in Stillness. However, for the first time, I was dissappointed. With all of the great personalities and practitioners who have lived stillness-- and written Contemplative and Meditative literature over the last 40 centuries, he chose examples of men who were admirable for their accomplishments more often than not.
Churchill, is a man of populist acclaim,(and one of my favorite figures) but whose life was obviously driven by ego,and sustained by large amounts of alcohol.
Driven to please his long dead, angry and dismissive father, his vision of Empire--with him as it's visionary Hero, categorically dismissed his wife and children into the balcony, while playing to his primary audience of himself. His greatness in history and personal dominance on the global stage were his chief concerns.
Men and women who spent their adult lifetimes in the practice of humility, meditation, and kenosis(intentional self emptying), often had far greater impact in human hearts than Holiday's examples. The hole in his work omits ancient and contemporary world-changers like Jesus, Moses, and Paul of Tarsus.
More recent stillness role models include John Booth, Mother Teresa, and profound monastic authors like Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen, and many more who could help mirror Stillness as an external discipline of the virtues of ego-less self-denial, self-sacrifice, and service to God and "Others."

Orm is then captured by the Moors in Spain, where he fights for the Caliph of Cordova. Escaping from captivity, Orm washes up in Ireland, where he marvels at those epicene creatures, the Christian monks, and from which he then moves on to play an ever more important part in the intrigues of the various Scandinavian kings and clans and dependencies.

A bio withshoddy writing that glorifies violence
Revisado: 01-30-22
The stories were sometimes compelling on their own. I forced myself to read 1/3 the way through but the constant strings of repetitive profanity made it unreadable for me.
There seemed to be a forced attempt to teach that linking shock, awe, gore, and an end-justifys- the-means ideology as something transcendently virtuous somehow. It does not.

Brain Science + Biblical Revelation in harmony
Revisado: 08-06-21
This attempt to go deeper into new discoveries of the human headquarters...the majestic symphony hall of the brains' intricate design with its intelligent mapping of the dynamic cerebral cortex, the more i appreciated God's genius in creating man in His own image. The author reconciles science and our Creators Artistry together in a way that hope and faith in our potential to heal emotional wounds in ourselves through our brain's flexibility to be rewired towards both loving being and behavior was sometimes beyond my comprehension but plausible and inspiring for the most part.
Overall, my curiosity was often piqued to sit with him and say, "Tel lme more."

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.
