A delightful romp with a man trying to find his place in life.
Revisado: 10-07-24
Our character is an unemployed, new father, learning to adjust to big changes in his life. He’s a bit lost & overwhelmed, until he becomes a bit obsessed with an apparent surfing accident that claimed the life of a slight acquaintance. Unable to accept the ruling that the death was an accident, he probes into every aspect of the investigation, Even after the police have closed the case. The eventual outcome presents a wonderful plot twist! At that point, our protagonist if forced to view his life from a completely different aspect- and to make some seemingly impossible decisions.
The narrator was absolutely perfect for this book. His cadence, pacing, & mannerisms successfully captured all of the aspects of the personalities of each character. I have an Audible library of 1200+ books, & this one truly stands out for many reasons. Chose it, & join the challenges, angst, & introspection of a wonderful fictional character. Though it isn’t as complex, it reminded me a bit of The World According to Garp, in that the primary character is simply trying to find his way through life, somewhat oblivious to the waves & ripples that affect us.

A Grisham-type story with engaging characters, interesting plot twists, & it kept my attention all the way through. I recommend it. Narration was very nice- evenly paced to suit the situation, & very talented. New narrator for me. I shall seek other books he has read.

A mediocre book, completely ruined by a terrible narrator!
Revisado: 05-17-20
The narrator has an absolutely flat affect & voice tone. The amplified sounds on his inhalation’s & exhalations is the predominant aural experience. I have an Audible Library of about 1250 books, plus the 2-4 I listen to that are from our community library, & I believe I have written less than 10 reviews, but I feel obligated to encourage you to pass on this book!

A REAL (audio) page turner
Revisado: 04-07-18
I am 63, hardly the target for a YA book, but I am very pleased that I decided to read this book. What began as a story of a teen with a mentally ill mother expanded into a wonderful thriller. The characters are each provided with superb background & depth, with each having their own idiosyncrasies. I had a 40 year career working with psychiatric assessment, diagnosis & treatment of people with mental health issues, & found the descriptions of the mother’s behaviors to very clinically accurate.
I encourage you to give it a try!

What if autism/idiot savants & Asperger’s folks are simply the next stage in human evolution
Revisado: 03-26-18
Is evolution seeking to obtain a mental & physical equilibrium as we reach for the next level of Darwinian progress?
This book does a wonderful job of exploring that premise. As usual, the performance by Luke Daniels is excellent! No one else sucks me into a novel nearly as well as Mr. Daniels does.
This book has sufficient superlatives to merit reading/listening. As a mental health clinician of 40 years, i was completely intrigued by the questions and answers explored by this superb fictional world.
Thank you, Markus & Luke!

Excellent character development!
Revisado: 03-09-18
An interwoven narrative with a superior story & characters you will not forget. The author has a keen eye for situational details, as well as the idiosyncrasies of each character. I felt elated when they surpassed goals, & sorrow when failed.
This is one of those books that make me wish I could just jump into the story and nudge the major characters just a bit- to direct them toward a happy outcome in all characters.
Like To Kill a Mockingbird, these characters pull you in, and will remain with you for quite some time.
Highly recommended

Please, do not succumb to the positive reviews & actually purchase this book. The story is similar to something we have seen on Law & Order SVU, or any other television show that has used this same, tired plot line, over & over. I shall not include spoilers. I know there are others that may be seduced, as was I, by the $1.99 Audible sale. I have frequently purchased some surprisingly enjoyable books through those promotions. This is not one of them ". Thaddition of music, IMO, was completely distracting. The exact, same "enhanced poorly written few bars, with a rock & roll beat, ruined any moments of suspense that may have occurred without the music. The music starts...something bad is going to happen.may be the worst book I have ever read. BTW, this is the first negative review, after purchasing over 400 Audible books, that I have ever written.
