Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

As an avid reader about and visitor to many Civil War Battlefields, this book brought the battles to life in a way that only U.S. Grant could. His vivid portrayal of this tragedy brought me to the battlefield next to his side. Thank you to Audible for making his story available and for choosing the perfect narrator to match the importance of the text. I am proud to live In Brunswick, Maine, the home of general, governor and professor Joshua Chamberlain.

Historia
The Ultimate Battle is the full story of the largest land-sea-air battle ever waged by the United States, a battle whose staggering casualties and take-no-prisoners ferocity led Truman to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. From April through June 1945, more than 250,000 American and Japanese lives were lost, including those of nearly 150,000 civilians who either committed suicide or were caught in the crossfire. This book tells a gripping story of heroism, sacrifice, and death.

I found this book one of the most educational stories about life and death in the Pacific theater. It is difficult to listen to at times because this is such detailed story about individual soldiers and the horrific story of their time in battle.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

A great story full of many invaluable and life-changing lessons.
Revisado: 01-22-22
I just finished listening to this book for the fourth time. I have read a couple of books twice, never four times. I hope that I have the opportunity to revisit Steve Job’s life and accomplishments several more times in the future. He had a significant and, arguably, difficult to match influence on our lives. His ability to understand human needs before we did and break them down to their simplest form was uncanny.
His insistence on simplicity was unmatched. The resulting products were designed to address complicated human tasks in a way that had peoples lined up around the block to be the first to have them. Who knew we wanted an iPod until we had one? Or an iPad? Or my first Apple…the Apple 2C computer?
I have applied his lessons on simplicity to my life, my work and my passions of art, photography and gardening. My best photographs share a simplified moment in life that one may have never experienced before. I believe that this allows viewers to achieve a new appreciation of the miracles around us.
In my volunteer work with nonprofit organizations, I simplified the message and process to allow people to accomplish their mission to help others. In that way, they could experience first-hand their impact on changing our world for those less fortunate.
I have included the most important part of the book that summarizes Steve Job’s accomplishments. In looking back, as an Apple enthusiast, I had the opportunity to experience each of these as they progressed.
“The saga of Steve Jobs is the Silicon Valley creation myth writ large: launching a startup in his parents’ garage and building it into the world’s most valuable company. He didn’t invent many things outright, but he was a master at putting together ideas, art, and technology in ways that invented the future. He designed the Mac after appreciating the power of graphical interfaces in a way that Xerox was unable to do, and he created the iPod after grasping the joy of having a thousand songs in your pocket in a way that Sony, which had all the assets and heritage, never could accomplish. Some leaders push innovations by being good at the big picture. Others do so by mastering details. Jobs did both, relentlessly. As a result he launched a series of products over three decades that transformed whole industries:
• The Apple II, which took Wozniak’s circuit board and turned it into the first personal computer that was not just for hobbyists.
• The Macintosh, which begat the home computer revolution and popularized graphical user interfaces.
• Toy Story and other Pixar blockbusters, which opened up the miracle of digital imagination.
• Apple stores, which reinvented the role of a store in defining a brand.
• The iPod, which changed the way we consume music.
• The iTunes Store, which saved the music industry.
• The iPhone, which turned mobile phones into music, photography, video, email, and web devices.
• The App Store, which spawned a new content-creation industry.
• The iPad, which launched tablet computing and offered a platform for digital newspapers, magazines, books, and videos.
• iCloud, which demoted the computer from its central role in managing our content and let all of our devices sync seamlessly.
• And Apple itself, which Jobs considered his greatest creation, a place where imagination was nurtured, applied, and executed in ways so creative that it became the most valuable company on earth.
Walter Isaacson had a unique challenge with this story. He had to manage both the great and unforgivable aspects of a genius and extremely complicated and difficult personality that unforgivingly tore people apart at times. He accomplished that goal brilliantly.

A Great Man and Story
Revisado: 11-24-20
I live in Brunswick, Maine where Major General Chamberlain spent much of his life after the war. Promoted to General as he lay dying, he ultimately survived until 1914 when he passed away. After the war he was Maine Governor and President of Bowdoin College. His Grave is located in a cemetery on Bowdoin College land where it has become a tradition to leave a Lincoln Penny face up on his grave in respect for his service and love of country. This is also the best book that I have read which explains the difficult life of the average solder during the war. I had the honor to meet the author John Pullen and he was a great writer and man.

Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

If I was to imagine a perfect use of this Audible format, it would have to be this book. It is a great story, an unimaginably perfect narration, and it brought a plethora of feelings and memories to life. I never would have read it. Reading books has always been difficult for some reason. This was a great experience: made possible for me by talent, vision, and technology. I hope that it moves you as well.

An extraordinary chronicle of Venice, its people, and its grandeur Thomas Madden’s majestic, sprawling history of Venice is the first full portrait of the city in English in almost thirty years. Using long-buried archival material and a wealth of newly translated documents, Madden weaves a spellbinding story of a place and its people, tracing an arc from the city’s humble origins as a lagoon refuge to its apex as a vast maritime empire and Renaissance epicenter to its rebirth as a modern tourist hub.

A great history and a perfect supplement before or after your visit
Revisado: 09-05-18
I visited Venice on a two-week tour of Europe. I wish that I had read this before my visit because it is a magnificent and well told story. However, my visit allowed me to picture the city as it was explained -- basically taking me back again and allowing me to appreciate Venice even more. This is my second reading of this history and it was even more enjoyable than the first time. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in learning more about what was our most favorite stop on our tour. Thank you for the great effort by everyone involved.

I have read many of the best books about Gettysburg and this one added some important and interesting information. I am very glad that I read it. At the end, there was some valuable new information for me about Lee and Meade and how history has treated their roles, leadership and what ifs...could Meade have ended the war if he attacked Lee before he reached Virginia in his army's weakened state.

Historia
Drawing on previously unpublished eyewitness accounts, prizewinning historian Donald L. Miller has written what critics are calling one of the most powerful accounts of warfare ever published. Here are the horror and heroism of World War II in the words of the men who fought it, the journalists who covered it, and the civilians who were caught in its fury. Miller gives us an up-close, deeply personal view of a war that was more savagely fought - and whose outcome was in greater doubt - than one might imagine. This is the war that Americans on the home front would have read about had they had access to previously censored testimony.

The best book that I have read to date about WWII.
Revisado: 07-02-18
I am very familiar with the history of WWII having read many of the finest books available about all aspects of the wars and it's different leaders. This book told story after story from a variety of participants who shared their personal perspective about some aspect of the war. I felt as though I was with them and experiencing the highs and lows of the carnage that surround them day and night. For me, this was a great read, but an often difficult one because of the new insight that I gained into the details of the life and death struggles going on constantly. We must never forget these brave Americans and allies who paid dearly for our freedom. I now cherish that freedom more than ever before and will always celebrate their courage and sacrifice.

A Well Written and Performed Book at the Perfect Time
Revisado: 06-07-18
I have always liked and respected John McCain even though we often don't agree on policy. He is a true hero in my book who dedicated his life to his country. Living in Maine, I have had the fortune to be represented by some of America's greatest leaders. John McCain fits their mold of putting the country first and striving for bipartisan compromise. I learned much about the senator that I did not know. He speaks honestly and discuses accomplishments and mistakes. Most important, he tells a powerful and welcomed history of our country and our important role in supporting freedom. He tells stories about brave individuals fighting against difficult odds and putting their lives on the line to instill freedom in their own country.
I must admit that, while I enjoyed the entire book, the second half had me riveted and not wanting to put the book down. I finished it on a six-hour round-trip drive to Boston. McCain ends the book with a refreshing and emotional discussion that reviewed his life, his fight with cancer, his love for Arizona, and his hopes for his future and our country's. Jeff Bridges performance was excellent and it truly seemed if Senator McCain was reading the book himself.
God Bless you John McCain as you pursue the most important fight of your life. I am a much better person thanks to your influence on my life.
