Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

I really enjoyed learning more about Elon. Fascinating story. Intriguing man. Faults and all. This gave me a very different perspective on Space X as well.

I love JG. Really enjoy his books. I kept waiting for a plot twist. Guessing who was going to turn out to be the villain. Hmmm. Long wait for nothing. Pretty disappointed. Sorry.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Historia
It was a crime that shocked the nation: the brutal murder in Chicago in 1924 of a child by two wealthy college students who killed solely for the thrill of the experience. Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb were intellectuals - too smart, they believed, for the police to catch them. When they were apprehended, state's attorney Robert Crowe was certain that no defense could save the ruthless killers from the gallows.

Ack! Disappointing.
Revisado: 03-27-21
The narrator was horrible to listen to. Very monotone, over-emphasizing each syllable like a second grader reading aloud in front of the class. Far too much detail about the peripheral players. Had to give up, which I have only done once before. This was painful to listen to.

Historia
1944. Physics professor Alfred Mendel and his family were trying to flee Paris when they were caught and forced onto a train, along with thousands of other Jewish families. At the other end of the long, torturous train ride, Alfred is separated from his family and sent to the men’s camp, where all of his belongings are tossed on a roaring fire. His books, his papers, his life’s work. The Nazis have no idea what they have just destroyed. And without that physical record, Alfred is one of only two people in the world with his particular knowledge. Knowledge that could start a war, or end it.

Narrator problem!
Revisado: 04-28-20
I was really enjoying this book. I was getting into the story. Then the narrator changed his reading style. It was HORRIBLE. I realize he was probably doing it to correspond with the particular character.... but it reminded me of a podcast I listen to to fall asleep at night. The narrator used a sing-song, slow, almost falsetto voice. Very deliberate, dreamlike. Ugh.
I hope i can get through the rest of this book.

Historia
"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.
