Historia
Drawing on their own cross cultural experience in global mission, O'Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time, and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

Entertaining and Useful But Not All
Revisado: 05-22-21
I haven't finished the book yet. I'm just starting chapter 6. I'm enjoying the audio version and have learned a couple of things thus far. As was stated in one of the editorial Reviews, it is written an in entertaining manner. Some of the stories and illustrations actually made me to laugh out loud. I already had some understanding of the concepts the book is purporting to help bible readers get a better understanding of the Scriptures and I agree with some of the points the authors have made and have found the stories and illustrations contrasting Eastern and Western cultures interesting.
Now, at the risk of being accused of being one of those KJV Only guys, which I am not, I would like to point out that in Chapter 4, I believe it is, the authors point out some issues with English pronouns, particularly the pronoun "you" which is used for both plural and singular and causes confusion in our English translations. This is true and something I was already aware of. I'm curious as to why the authors don't acknowledge that the King James translation does, in fact, differentiate the plural and singular pronouns by using Ye or You for the plural and Thee or Thou for the singular. The "Y" pronouns are plural and the "T" pronouns are singular in the KJV. So, it's actually modern scholarship, in the translation process that, has made it more difficult for the reader to understand what is being said. It's somewhat ironic that the modern translators, in an effort to make the texts easier to understand, have actually done the opposite.
Every student of the bible will benefit from understanding the importance, not only of understanding what is being said but to whom it is being said and in the context of the times and the culture it is being said in order to avoid misapplying the scriptures. It may be written for you but not to you. All scripture is for us, for our learning, but it is not all about us.
All that being said, there is a good deal of "interpretation" by the authors and while I don't expect everyone to agree with me, their theological bent does seem to skew their interpretation of more than a couple of passages that seem to have nothing to do with overall concept of the book. They claim at the opening of the book they goal is not exegesis but they don't seem to be able to help themselves. Anyway, be forewarned. I'd still recommend it but I do think in their attempt to show the differences in Eastern and Western thought when looking at the scriptures, they some times strain at a gnat to swallow a camel.

Historia
Anarcho-capitalism is the most exciting social philosophy of modern times. But how does it work? This book illuminates the ethical system at the heart of anarcho-capitalism. It builds the nonaggression principle from praxeological foundations and develops techniques for applying it to real world conflicts. It explores the edges of libertarianism to show where it shines and where it fails.

Unusual but Effective!
Revisado: 06-14-20
The way this was presented was quite unique. Putting it in the form of a story where you are sort of participating as the main character kept me engaged and wondering what dilemma was coming next and how would I work it out. Of course being an an-cap already I could anticipate some of the solutions but it was really cool seeing it all in my minds eye, so to speak, like watching a movie and feeling like your really there. It was just a really creative way to present the ideal of Anarcho-capitalism being worked out in this way. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Springtime for Snowflakes: 'Social Justice' and Its Postmodern Parentage is a daring and candid memoir. NYU Professor Michael Rectenwald - the notorious @AntiPCNYUProf - illuminates the obscurity of postmodern theory to track down the ideas and beliefs that spawned the contemporary social justice creed and movement. In fast-paced creative non-fiction, Rectenwald begins by recounting how his Twitter capers and media exposure met with the swift and punitive response of NYU administrators and fellow faculty members.

Informative But Horribly Delivered
Revisado: 02-21-19
I have not yet finished listening to this book and I may not finish it. The narration is very wooden and the sentences are so choppy it makes some of them almost incoherent. Nothing personal against Shawn Milochick but he reads like a robot. I've heard Text-to-speech narrations that have better flow. It makes it difficult to follow the narrative when the reader continually adds periods and commas where, I doubt that, there are any.
I listened to Mr. Rectenwald on the Tom Woods' Show and enjoyed his conversation with Dr. Woods a great deal. However, I would highly recommend getting a hard copy or the Kindle version.

Historia
Most Americans consider Abraham Lincoln to be the greatest president in history. His legend as the Great Emancipator has grown to mythic proportions as hundreds of books, a national holiday, and a monument in Washington, D.C., extol his heroism and martyrdom. But what if most everything you knew about Lincoln were false? What if, instead of an American hero who sought to free the slaves, Lincoln were in fact a calculating politician who waged the bloodiest war in American history in order to build an empire that rivaled Great Britain's?

Remember when socialism was a dirty word? Now students at America's elite universities are parroting socialist talking points and "sure thing" Hillary Clinton is struggling to win the Democratic nomination against a 74-year-old avowed socialist who promises to make the nation more like Europe. What's happened? Do Americans need a reminder about the dangers of socialist ideology and practices?

Historia
Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

A Short History of Man: Progress and Decline represents nothing less than a sweeping revisionist history of mankind, in a concise and listenable volume. Dr. Hans-Hermann Hoppe skillfully weaves history, sociology, ethics, and Misesian praxeology to present an alternative - and highly challenging - view of human economic development over the ages. As always, Dr. Hoppe addresses the fundamental questions as only he can.
