Janes is a great character, along with the others. The mysteries, for me, aren't easily solvable as with other writers. There's always a hidden reason why something happens. As it should be!! Can't wait to listen to the next one!

Historia
There is a hidden garden bordering the grounds of Jane Steward's book-themed resort - a garden filled with beautiful but deadly plants such as mandrake and nightshade. Tucked away behind ivy-covered walls and accessible only through a single locked door, as described in the pages of Frances Hodges Burnett's classic novel, the garden is of special interest to Jane's current group of guests, the Medieval Herbalists.

BEST book I've listened to in a LONG time!
Revisado: 02-27-13
Would you consider the audio edition of You're Next to be better than the print version?
Actually, I think with this book I would. Being able to hear Shep speak was probably better than what he'd have sounded like in my head if I'd read the book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of You're Next?
I think every second of it was memorable. It is a very fast-paced book and if I'd have had the time, I would have listened to it all at once. It, for me, was one of those you just don't want to put down.
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
It took me just a few minutes to get used to his portrayal of the female character(s). (I'm not a fan of men trying to sound like females. Most of the time it just doesn't work, in my opinion.) But after I got used to him, I enjoyed everything about his performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
How much and what all Mike did to protect his little girl and how patient he was with her.
Any additional comments?
Get this book! I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've already recommended it to a lot of my friends, and can't wait to pick out my next Hurwitz book!

I love Shirley, Goodness & Mercy stories
Revisado: 01-03-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Those Christmas Angels: A Selection from Angels at Christmas to be better than the print version?
I'm not sure that it's better, necessarily. I read the first three Angel books years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I love reading books, but listening has become more convenient these days, as I can do it while working, and no one can tell it's a book, not music.
I'm sure a lot of people find the Angel books sedate or even boring because there's no sex, cursing, or "ACTION". But that is precisely why I like them so much. This series is just a good read of a lot of sweet stories, with an abundance of Angel mischief thrown it to make it fun.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What would have made Beautiful Ruins better?
A story you WANT to keep listening to...
Has Beautiful Ruins turned you off from other books in this genre?
YES
Which character – as performed by Edoardo Ballerini – was your favorite?
I think the only character I really liked was Pasquale. Mr. Ballerini was great, but, in my opinion, he just didn't have much to work with in terms of a story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
fatigue and depression
Any additional comments?
I'm sorry... I can't see what EVERYBODY loves about this book. Almost everyone in it is either depressed, drunk, getting drunk, WANTS to get drunk or high, in a bad situation, sad, lonely... shall I go on?! No. I won't. I will say that, at this time, I have only listened to HALF of it, but good gosh, if it's THIS slow and depressing through the first half, what inspired those of you who loved it to finish it?! I would really like to finish it, just because I'm pretty stubborn about starting and finishing a book, but I'm not holding out much hope for this one. If I do finish it, I am praying the end will be worth all the pain.

A Real Disappointment
Revisado: 08-21-12
Would you try another book from Penelope Lively and/or Katherine Kellgren?
Possibly... I'd have to read the synopsis and reviews first. (Although that did me no good this time.)
What could Penelope Lively have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It was just boring... I don't know, make it more entertaining! Throw a little excitement into it.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I can honestly say out of all the books I've listened to since joining audible.com in January (it is now almost September) this was the first book I REALLY didn't like the narrator. Having several friends who're British, I usually love the British accent. But this woman's voice got on my nerves from her very first word. It was extremely annoying. But I thought the book would make it worth listening to her. Sadly, I was wrong.
What character would you cut from How It All Began?
The guy with whom the old man's niece had the affair. He was just awful... a waste of space. I think the only character I could honestly say I liked was the woman who was the long-lost friend...towards the end of the book. SHE was interesting. The rest could be scrapped. Build a story around her.
Any additional comments?
It's very seldom I don't like a book. I can generally plow through it and find something to enjoy. But for me, there was very little to enjoy about this one.

Everybody Loves Betty White...
Revisado: 07-11-12
Would you try another book from Betty White and/or Betty White?
Yes, I think I'd try another of her books.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It was entertaining, but it seemed more like a promotional piece for her career. I think I was expecting funny stories from when she started out in show business.
Which scene was your favorite?
When she told about meeting the gorilla. Also, getting locked out of her house. :)
Did If You Ask Me inspire you to do anything?
No.
Any additional comments?
She's so funny, I just expected it to be funnier than it was. Maybe another book would be, but this one was a bit disappointing. But a good buy since I got it on sale.

Historia
Begun in 1994, The Atlanta Study is the first comprehensive investigation of its kind into near-death experiences (NDEs). The study's name hardly captures what lies behind it: life-and-death dramas played out in operating rooms and hospital beds - and simultaneous events unseen by medical personnel but reported with astonishing clarity and conviction by nearly 50 individuals who returned from death's door. Now the founder of The Atlanta Study, Dr. Michael Sabom reveals their impact....

Too clinical for my taste...
Revisado: 07-11-12
What would have made Light and Death better?
If there were more real-life stories and a LOT less scientific talk.
Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Sabom again?
Probably not
What character would you cut from Light and Death?
What characters?
Any additional comments?
I had thought this was going to be a collection of NDE (Near Death Experience) stories, but what it turned out to be - in my opinion - was some stories sprinkled in with a very clinical possible explanation for NDE's. I kept listening thinking, hoping, it would get better, but it just didn't — for me. If you think you would enjoy a scientific commentary on the mysteries of the mind, body and/or soul, then you'll probably like this one. It just wasn't what I was looking for... Next time, I'll read the reviews more carefully.
