With generous and specific advice, Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness offers skillful ways to handle anger, to find right livelihood, and to cultivate loving-friendliness in relationships with parents, children, and partners, as well as tools to overcome all the mental hindrances that prevent happiness.

Historia
Jonathan Haidt skillfully combines two genres-philosophical wisdom and scientific research-delighting the listener with surprising insights. He explains, for example, why we have such difficulty controlling ourselves and sticking to our plans; why no achievement brings lasting happiness, yet a few changes in your life can have profound effects, and why even confirmed atheists experience spiritual elevation.

Hit and miss.
Revisado: 05-09-23
Like most genera of this nature, it’s our perspective and perception that dictates our depth and the understanding of it. When the line “I am a Jewish Atheist” was uttered I could
not help but say “you’re a complete nincompoop” out loud. The misconception in the world today, that Jewish people are an ethnicity is as ridiculous as saying Christian’s and Muslims are of a certain blood. The term practice what you preach is the basis of any belief system. Had reader said he was of a Jewish upbringing and now Atheist, the whole dynamic would have given perspective and plausibility to his view and understanding. As it stands, he seems confused from whence he came, so it stands to reason he doesn’t know where he is going. Religion and spirituality are not as similar or cohesive as enlightenment and spirituality. There is a balance to be found in reasoning with all that exists. The lesson is in not losing our insight to sight.

Conflicting
Revisado: 04-17-23
Enjoying the various insights and depths available today on Buddhism is a privilege. This particular storyline was mostly cut and pasted with widely documented but mundane information, then littered with opinions, slants and various personal preferences thrown in. If I’d never heard the more proficient open-sighted insights to Buddhism, meditation and humility, this version would squash my curiosity to know or understand further.
It is good to read the reviews of others sharing how this story has effected them positively.
I do hope those that felt the conflicting impact, will continue to seek understanding and enlightenment.

Hard to listen to narrator.
Revisado: 12-18-21
The nasal tone and over all pitch of this books narration was just to much to ignore. Speakers like this should be taught to avoid nasal resonance.
I thought it was just me, but 6 out of 6 people I asked to listen to a few minutes said the same thing, “I guess the message is good but no way could I listen to that narration for 2 hours”.

1 book 7 times
Revisado: 03-31-21
This book is interesting and eye-opening, but it is the same information 7 times over. At first I thought I accidently started the first book over, but alas... it just repeats the same information over in each book with a variant spin. Deleting "7 books in 1" from the description or changing it to "repetitive, in-depth variants on narcissism" would make it a truer description.

Narrator sounds computerized.
Revisado: 03-28-21
Unfortunately I can only guess this instruction was accurate. I know the dialect had to be off because the English that I speak fluently was not clear to me, this has a flat computerized dialect that was neither English nor French accented. Many words spoken in English here sounded incorrect to me so I don’t believe my pronunciation in French would be correct when attempting mimicking Maya Begnaoui. No doubt I would get by but I don't want to make those trying to understand me do anymore guessing at what I am trying to say than they have too.

Hit this nail on the head!
Revisado: 03-20-21
There are so many things that made this book the right book for me. Above all I really like the way this author weaves humor in with the hard knocks of reality. Some of the suggestions gave me the motivational nudge I needed to break through some old habits and make a clean slate. I really like the way she opens things up in my mind for me with her unique approach to old issues.

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

Great motivator!
Revisado: 03-19-21
This book is a great motivator and definitely a keeper for repeat listening. Listening to this while actually taking a few minutes to declutter daily has been very helpful. I especially like the “clear your own clutter before pointing out another’s clutter” rule of thumb. Also, the insight in to the mindset we should adopt when helping others is beautifully stated. This author is in the parenting stage of life, and it is and eye opening view. I am in the grandparent stage of life, so this authors perspective helped me to see my way clear of burdening my loved ones with my sentimental de-cluttered clutter. I especially enjoyed the comic relief. Well done Dana White, thank you!
