Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Sequel to the extraordinary The Name of The Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear is the second instalment of this superb fantasy trilogy from Patrick Rothfuss. This is the most exciting fantasy series since George R. R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and a must for all fans of HBO's GAME OF THRONES.

Historia
At a weekend shooting party at Prince Albert's country estate, Aubrey and George find themselves in a hotbed of intrigue and politics. Together they discover a golem, a magical creature built to perform one task - to kill Prince Albert. Aubrey and George are hailed as heroes for foiling the attempt on the prince's life - but who sent the golem, and why? Aubrey is far too curious to let the authorities handle this one, and he and George start an investigation of their own to get to the bottom of the royal assassination attempt.

A nice listen
Revisado: 02-01-21
Dark academia meets steampunk. & strong feminine characters, no damsels in distress here. The hero is quite relatable and, as it turns out, not the broody, sickly archetipe, but just a nice guy trying to do what's right. One of the major cons could be the fact that even though the plot is somewhat character driven, our central figures are teens that don't act, speak and think like teens too well. There is no teen angst, and I sort of liked that, but it might be a con for younger audiences. I'm starting book 2 right away.

Historia
Watchman by day, vigilante by night, Shadowbane's world is turned upside down when he runs across a powerful wizard - in the form of a confused, hunted girl who finds herself at the heart of a fell plot. When his friends start dying and the girl is kidnapped, Shadowbane must choose between the darkness and the light in his heart: to avenge the deaths of his friends, or to let the villain live to face - and possibly escape - justice.

mixed feelings
Revisado: 12-10-20
I started this series because the second book, Shadowbane, was narrated by Rupert Degas. I loved his performance in The Name Of The Wind and in order to listen to Shadowbane, I first decided upon Downshadow. The book itself was frustrating at times. Not only the logic of some actions is lost to me, but most of the characters are obnoxious as hell. The first part of the book is all brooding male hero and all female characters are either beautiful, but vain, shallow, conceited and frail or ugly and strong, and brave but don t get too much "screen time". You start caring for the hero in the end and want him to succeed, but the heroine is such a ninny that you almost root for him and anyone else if possible. Affection is mostly hurried along the intrigue that it seems unnatural. The villains are one faceted - they are just evil, there is no moment in the entire book when you stop and think that maybe there is a second nature to them, maybe an inner conflict, maybe a chance for redemption - villains not being dual just makes them into caricatures. In the end, I think I liked the book only because there are some well written scenes, some characters evolve somehow and some of them stop being obnoxious. A well deserved vote goes to the narrator, even though his accent is not what I usually enjoy, his different voices for each character are spot on, specially the villain and the hero(will look for other fantasy books narrated by him for sure). The end of the book made me start on the second book hoping that maybe there is still some character development left and that this time maybe we're done with all the ladies adoring this brooding, stubborn child man(the hero), so I guess it did the right job.

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

I Simply loved this book - except some character flaws that make these characters all the way more realistic and eventually human.., I really can't find anything to criticize. The narrator, Rupert Degas, did such an amazing job. I am out of words. Even the not so well written parts are good. I tip my hat!

Historia
The Addictive Brain is a fair and balanced investigation of addiction, backed by hard science and behavioral science. Most of us have probably seen the old antidrug commercial in which an actor compares your brain on drugs to an egg sizzling in a hot frying pan. That's a powerful image, but it doesn't tell us what actually happens when drugs enter your body and interact with neurochemical processes.
