Historia
The sorcerer Alder fears sleep. The dead are pulling him to them at night. Through him they may free themselves and invade Earthsea. Alder seeks advice from Ged, once Archmage. Ged tells him to go to Tenar, Tehanu, and the young king at Havnor. They are joined by amber-eyed Irian, a fierce dragon able to assume the shape of a woman. The threat can be confronted only in the Immanent Grove on Roke, the holiest place in the world, and there the king, hero, sage, wizard, and dragon make a last stand.

Fantastic story
Revisado: 09-20-24
I loved it, though I as always wish Ursula Le Guin would be more invested in wrapping up a story, like Tolkien does, her constant inspiration and source of reference. Also,.I didn't like that the narrator couldn't decide on how to pronounce some names, but I did like thAt he speaks in a way that is reminiscent of Neil Gaiman.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

essential reading
Revisado: 03-30-24
I absolutely loved this book, and learned a lot about myself through reading it. I will say, hah, that it is SO FUNNY in the strangest way to hear Sean Pratt read this, using his normal voice, sounding just like he did while narrating Infinite Jest, which could genuinely be mistaken for this book in many passages.

Terrific children's book, poor audio
Revisado: 04-20-21
The narrator himself was perfect, but it is quite evident it's from the 1980s, as you can every now and again hear other people in the background. The story was quite charming, albeit outdated in some ways (there was the usual sexism and racism found in older stories).

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Great but where is Rick Lewis?
Revisado: 03-29-21
I seriously loved breakfasting with my husband while listening to this point. The narrator interviews several people with different specializations in paleontology. But four stars because there wasn't any Rick Lewis, so to us it can't count as having truly being read.

how lovely
Revisado: 12-03-20
Of course it's too short. That's the point. The book can't tell us what happens next, because we have to decide that for ourselves.

Historia
By now, the low-carb diet's refrain is a familiar one: "Bread is bad for you. Fat doesn't matter. Carbs are the real reason you can't lose weight. In The Low-Carb Fraud, longtime leader in the nutritional science field T. Colin Campbell outlines where and how the low-carb proponents get it wrong: Where the belief came from that carbohydrates are bad and why it persists despite all the evidence to the contrary. The foods we misleadingly refer to as "carbs" aren't all created equal, and treating them that way has major consequences for our nutritional well-being.
