Historia
The lifeblood of any free society is persuasion: changing other people’s minds in order to change things. But America is suffering a crisis of faith in persuasion that is putting its democracy and the planet itself at risk. Anand Giridharadas takes us inside these movements and battles, seeking out the dissenters who continue to champion persuasion in an age of polarization. As the book’s subjects grapple with how to call out injustices while calling in those who don’t agree with them but just might one day, they point a way to healing, and changing, a fracturing country.

Another outstanding, thought-provoking work by Giridharadas
Revisado: 05-29-23
What an outstanding book full of rich narrative and research-practice that has challenged my thinking and helped me to grow as a person. This is the book that progressives and the Left more broadly need to read and take to heart to more effectively and humanly advance a freer and more just US/world. I will definitely be re-listening to/studying select chapters. Thank you for such a timely, needed book!

Historia
Finlay Donovan has been in messes before—after all, she's an author and single mom who's a pro at getting out bloodstains for rather unexpected reasons—but none quite like this. After she and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they may have "borrowed" in the process of saving the life of Finlay's ex-husband, the Russian mob got her out of debt. But now Finlay owes them.

Historia
Finlay Donovan is - once again - struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish. On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he's a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of soccer moms disguised as hit-women.

Super fun and good plot/characters

I used to not think I was into “books like these” (carefree) but clearly I’ve been missing out! I’ve really enjoyed the first and second (this one) books – binge-listened. Finlay and Vero (main characters) are awesome/really complementary and the plot was interesting and unexpected. Can’t wait for the third book coming out next year!

Historia
When psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman first discovered Maslow's unfinished theory of transcendence, sprinkled throughout a cache of unpublished journals, lectures, and essays, he felt a deep resonance with his own work and life. In this groundbreaking book, Kaufman picks up where Maslow left off, unraveling the mysteries of his unfinished theory, and integrating these ideas with the latest research on attachment, connection, creativity, love, purpose and other building blocks of a life well lived.

Can’t recommend this gem enough
Revisado: 04-08-21
What a potentially life-changing book (life-changing, if you invest the time and heart to take its wisdom and lessons to the next level, etc. in your life). It shows possibilities that exist within all of us and that we can *all* aspire to; a fuller, richer life we could all live. Can’t recommend this gem enough!

Historia
In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., isolated himself from the demands of the civil rights movement, rented a house in Jamaica with no telephone, and labored over his final manuscript. In this prophetic work, which was unavailable for more than 10 years, he lays out his thoughts, plans, and dreams for America's future, including the need for better jobs, higher wages, decent housing, and quality education. With a universal message of hope that continues to resonate, King demanded an end to global suffering.

Phenomenal. A must-read 50+ years later
Revisado: 02-24-21
This is the first book I’ve read by MLK and suffice it to say I’m shocked it’s not required reading in American high schools or more common at the university level in general education courses. MLK is a brilliant storyteller who seems to seamlessly weave history, the then-present, and his vision for the future. This book is still [very sadly] highly relevant today in 2021. I can’t recommend it enough.

Historia
In Palaces for the People, Eric Klinenberg suggests a way forward. He believes that the future of democratic societies rests not simply on shared values but on shared spaces: the libraries, synagogues, and parks where crucial, sometimes life-saving connections, are formed. These are places where people gather, making friends across group lines and strengthening the entire community. Klinenberg calls this the “social infrastructure”: When it is strong, neighborhoods flourish; when it is neglected, as it has been in recent years, families and individuals must fend for themselves.

Incredibly timely, interesting, inspiring book
Revisado: 11-16-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be both revealing (re: how we got to the place we are currently in) and also inspiring (re: how to get to a better place). It’s 1000% opened my eyes to better understanding this world and how to work at improving it. Very well worth the listen.

Stellar book for parents
Revisado: 12-17-19
This is my second time listening to this book and I will undoubtedly listen to it again. It’s chock full of invaluable information around mindsets, strategies, and tools for parents in respectfully raising their babies. It actually reminds me of organizational behavior/management literature I’ve read. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised in the end that what babies—vs what adults—want is not so terribly different!
