Historia
In this “miracle of literary serendipity” (The Washington Post), after finding himself deep in the thrall of heroin addiction, the soldier arrives at what seems like the only logical solution: robbing banks. Written by a singularly talented, wildly imaginative debut novelist, Cherry is a bracingly funny and unexpectedly tender work of fiction straight from the dark heart of America.

Definitely for Young Adults IMHO
Revisado: 06-21-23
I hesitated in purchasing this book because it was young adult genre but I was really intrigued by the concept so I gave it a go. What a mistake that was! I have read a fair number of YA books and I've never endured such sophomoric syrupy tripe. This is probably entertaining to pre-teen girls gushing over boys for the first time and would have been okay if that wasn't 95% of the story. Sadly, for me listening to this book was like being trapped inside the mind of a teen Tik-Tok wannabe.
The narration was reasonably well performed.
I couldn't endure until the end as damnably stubborn as I am.
I really wanted to like this book and simply could not.

A “breathtaking novel of ideas unlike anything you’ve ever read” (Esquire) from Young Lions Fiction Award-finalist Matt Bell, a breakout book that explores climate change, manifest destiny, humanity’s unchecked exploitation of natural resources, and the small but powerful magic contained within every single apple.

Dragged On and On
Revisado: 03-22-22
A real struggle to reach a forgettable finish. I wanted to like this book but just never did. There was one section that read like the "begats" section of the Bible that actually made me angry when I couldn't fast forward through it quickly enough.

Fabulous Writing and Narration
Revisado: 07-30-16
A most magnificent story written with lyrical prose and lush descriptions of individuals' feelings and scenery. Excellent historical perspective on Napoleonic times from the viewpoint of the downtrodden Poles. Wry sense of humor and incredibly deep emotional involvement in the characters makes this a true masterpiece. I loved book one in the series and book 2 was incredibly great and I cannot wait to listen to book 3!!!!
