Historia
The first invasion of Earth was beaten back by a coalition of corporate and international military forces and the Chinese army. China has been devastated by the Formic's initial efforts to eradicate Earth life forms and prepare the ground for their own settlement. The Scouring of China struck fear into the other nations of the planet; that fear blossomed into drastic action when scientists determined that the single ship that wreaked such damage was merely a scout ship. There is a mothership out beyond the solar system's Kuiper Belt, and it's heading into the system.

Great characters
Revisado: 09-04-17
I loved the main characters in this book and the story of what happened when they were found. I had to take a star because of the ending though. I want a sequel.

Got me into the world of zombie fiction
Revisado: 05-06-17
I avoided books about zombies until Jonathan Maberry visited our school to talk to the students who had read Rot and Ruin. My eighth graders loved the book and, since teachers whose students went to his talk got to eat lunch with him, I decided to read it myself. I fell in love with the series and both my students and I devoured the rest of the books.
I've since purchased all of the audiobooks and listened to them repeatedly. The narrator does a great job. The characters, altered world, thought-provoking scenes, and adventure keep you in their clutches and wanting more.

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Enjoyable Book
Revisado: 11-04-16
I found the new take on a viral epidemic and how it was handled fascinating. The mystery was also good. The best part, to me, was actually the bonus novella. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the back story of the disease, how it was studied, and what happened to several seemingly minor characters in Locked In.
One thing that did annoy me was the over use of said. Someone needs to give the author and his editor thesauruses (thesauri?) so the the reader doesn't hear said up to several times a minute.

Historia
As she was digging deep into the lives of community members, Heather Lende, the obituary writer for her tiny hometown newspaper in Haines, Alaska, began to notice something. Even the crustiest old Alaskan sourpuss who died in a one-room cabin always had Halloween candy for the neighborhood kids, and the eccentric owner of the seafood store who regularly warned her about government conspiracies knew how to be a true friend - his memorial service was packed.

Nice advice couched in story
Revisado: 09-17-16
This book is short but entertaining. The author does a wonderful job telling stories that show how perfectionism is harmful without being preachy. I enjoyed this and would recommend it to a friend.

Great mix of mental health history and mystery
Revisado: 09-16-16
I loved Not a Drop to Drink, but this book is so much better. While short, it is not a young adult novel as it deals with mature content. McGinnis has written a great story with strong, quirky, and interesting characters. I enjoyed reading about the different asylums as well as trying to figure out what would happen next with every turn. I'm not sure if this is meant to be a series, but I hope so.

Historia
Benny Imura and his friends have found the jet and Sanctuary - but neither is what they expected. Instead of a refuge, Sanctuary is a hospice, and the soldiers who flew the plane seem to be little more than bureaucrats who have given up hope for humanity's future. With Chong hovering between life and death, clinging to his humanity by a thread, Benny makes a startling discovery: a scientist may have discovered a cure for the zombie plague. Desperate to save Chong, Benny and his friends mount a search and rescue mission. But they're not the only ones on the hunt.
