Historia
This is the tale of Demon Copperhead: our hero. A boy with no assets beyond his dead father's good looks and copper-coloured hair, bucket-loads of charm and a talent or two the world is yet to discover. Born to a teenaged single mother in a single wide trailer, life is not set fair for Demon as he escorts us on this, his journey through the modern perils of foster care, athletic success and addiction, the dizzying highs of true love, and the crushing losses that can accompany it.

Absolutely loved it.

Despite the undeniably tragic context, this novel was just so enjoyable, especially for a Dickens fan. Beautifully written and the voice performance was great.

Not the best written but definitely entertaining
Revisado: 04-06-23
Although I wouldn’t describe this as the best written memoir - more a collection of thoughts that don’t always hang together to create an overarching narrative - it is nonetheless a good listen. The author reads it well, as you’d expect from an actor, and it comes across as honest and funny, with a lot of self deprecating humour. Worth the time, especially for all the pen portraits of those with whom he has worked over the years.

Historia
On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, the Nazis would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons and destroying two million homes. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson gives a new and brilliantly cinematic account of how Britain’s most iconic leader set about unifying the nation at its most vulnerable moment, and teaching ‘the art of being fearless’.

Historia
From legendary science-fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson comes a vision of climate change unlike any ever imagined. Told entirely through fictional eye-witness accounts, The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, the story of how climate change will affect us all over the decades to come. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

Appalling reading makes this unlistenable
Revisado: 09-12-21
I really, really wanted to listen to this book but after several hours I gave up. The readings are just dreadful. The attempts at accents are simply embarrassing and at time become offensive, as if they are telling a racist joke. It just made me cringe. Whoever made the decision to record it this way should be fired. This was, without doubt, the worst I’ve ever listened to and I just couldn’t continue. A pity because the CONTENT seemed interesting and thought provoking. The woman who read accents from Ireland and the Indian sub continent was absolutely the worst. :-(

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third voice: a woman who wields power through the ruthless accumulation and deployment of secrets.

Have been waiting for this sequel since I first read The Handmaid’s Tale when it came out in the 80s. I was not disappointed. This is a spellbinding book, with wonderful voice performances, especially that of Ann Dowd. I will listen again!

Revisado: 06-22-18
So good I found myself looking for every extra opportunity in my day to listen.
An all round excellent, imaginative yarn with wit and detail that delight, especially for those of us with such strong memories of the 80s.
Wil Wheaton reads expertly, breathing life and distinctive personality into the characters in a way which totally engages one with them. One of the very few audio books I’ve encountered where the narrator has no niggling trait whatsoever that annoys and distracts me from being fully hooked into the story.

Sure it's obvious in places but this is a dark and compelling vision of the very near future. Given the way things are going in the US right now, it's definitely not for those prone to nightmares. For those prepared to contemplate the parallels, it offers stark insight into a whole heap of attitudes and experiences.

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?
