I'm going to admit my bias when it comes to anything involving Oprah. I suspect everything she touches I love. I guess that's why I also think those who might question my opinion should listen to this book and then tell me if I am wrong. I'm confident you will love this book as much as me. It was filled with words of advice I carry with me always. "It really is that simple."

The power of fierce determination!
Revisado: 02-02-19
Steve's story validates me and so many others who feel like they took several trips to hell before we turned 18. I'm very thankful he chose to share his story through this book, in person and with his movie. Every person who hears the story will find encouragement to either continue their personal journey of resilience and/or understand the importance of creating a pathway that encourages resiliency for a child in the foster care system.
Thank you Steve for daring to dream your future was going to be different than your present.

Historia
Here is the inspiring story of how Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, alongside a team of researchers, parents, friends, and community leaders, discovered that the children of Flint, Michigan, were being exposed to lead in their tap water - and then battled her own government and a brutal backlash to expose that truth to the world. Paced like a scientific thriller, What the Eyes Don’t See reveals how misguided austerity policies, broken democracy, and callous bureaucratic indifference placed an entire city at risk.

"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless it is faced." James Baldwin
Dr. Mona is my real life hero. She forced life saving change through fierce determination and tenacity. She believed in her abilities as a researcher while understanding the real life consequences on those she served as a doctor if she had chosen inaction. This book should be required reading for all college aged students who are trying to figure out how they can make a long lasting real difference in this world. It's beyond sickening knowing that as I am typing this review, Flint Michigan still doesn't have clean water.

I found this book to be easy to listen to and packed full of useful ideas. The historical perspective provided me with a deeper understanding of some of the same issues we are still dealing with today, i.e. for profit prisons and immigration. I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes in order to make long term change we all need to, "pull your shift."

I thought I knew a lot of his story prior to purchasing this audio book. There's so much I didn't know. I think Comey did a great job sharing with the listener his thought processes through providing many examples of his decision making process dating back to his childhood.

I struggle with understanding why The Whitehouse allowed someone to get so close to so many, but I'm glad they did. This book confirms everything I have been piecing together over the past year. Trump supporters can continue to deny, but the truth always comes out.... always.

Wow....what an awesome story of resilience and strength told in a way where I found myself laughing and wanting to cry. I can't fathom how she physically or emotionally survived, but clearly she is one tough cookie. I have to also mention that her voice engaged me throughout the entire story.

In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Painful Truth
Revisado: 11-13-16
This was a great story with an important message. Painful at times, but I'm glad the author didn't hold back. I also loved the narrator because he captured the emotion I also was feeling as I listened to his words. I definitively recommend this book!

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Revisado: 09-27-16
Our morning routine includes listening to a chapter or two of an audio book with my 6 and 10 year old. I'm not easily offended, but found myself kind of surprised at some of the language and details in the story. Overall, it was a great story that was very engaging!
