Historia
gentle romance begins innocently enough in the stalls of a London theatre where Catherine is enjoying her ninth and Christopher his thirty-sixth visit to the same play. He is a magnificent young man with flame-coloured hair. She is the sweetest little thing in a hat. There is just one complication: Christopher is 25, while Catherine is just a little bit older. Flattered by the passionate attentions of youth, Catherine, with marriage and motherhood behind her, is at first circumspect, but finally succumbs to her lover's charms.

Historia
What does it mean when a fictional hero takes a journey? Shares a meal? Gets drenched in a sudden rain shower? Often, there is much more going on in a novel or poem than is readily visible on the surface - a symbol, maybe, that remains elusive, or an unexpected twist on a character - and there's that sneaking suspicion that the deeper meaning of a literary text keeps escaping you. In this practical and amusing guide to literature, Thomas C. Foster shows how easy and gratifying it is to unlock those hidden truths.

Historia
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

A story about the power of women over men. I like the character descriptions because I feel that I know each women and how her mind works. Men can learn a lot about women from this story .

A parody on the habit of media coverage turning events of no importance to anybody into sensations and mystery. We laugh at ourselves taking unimportant matters with deadly seriousness.

Historia
The story delicately balances the concerns of the Mellstock parish choir with a romance between Dick Dewy, a member of the choir, and Fancy Day, the village schoolmistress. While the choir battles for its survival against the new vicar's mechanical church organ, personal conflicts arise over the anachronistic customs of tradition.

A sensitive description of society
Revisado: 08-04-22
Thomas Hardy demonstrates sensitivity for the feelings of every type of person, even of plants and animals. Many people have this gift but very few are as brilliant as Hardy in putting these sensitivities into words and so sharing this rare quality with others, readers who lack these feelings but enjoy being made aware of them.

Historia
Can a young war correspondent find herself and follow her heart? In this work of historical fiction, 20-something Annabella “Annie” March arrives in France in 1944 intending to write about the war. Soon, however, Annie begins to distance herself from her sometimes-mentor, sometimes-rival - the great Martha Gellhorn - and Gellhorn’s larger-than-life husband, the novelist Ernest Hemingway. She turns to photography in the hopes of making her own name and, to her delight, discovers that images come more easily than words.

A great book well written full of 2nd WW history of terrible battles in France and Belgium. Interesting to read a critical appraisal of errors of generals and analysts who are old fashioned and blind to realities. Also a great love story without melodrama .

Historia
In the village of Great Wyrley near Birmingham, someone is mutilating horses. Someone is also sending threatening letters to the vicarage, where the vicar, Shahpur Edalji, is a Parsi convert to Christianity and the first Indian to have a parish in England. His son George - quiet, socially awkward and the only boy at school with distinctly Indian features - grows up into a successful barrister, till he is improbably linked to and then prosecuted for the above crimes in a case that left many convinced that justice hadn’t been served.

Today we wonder at the racism prevalent in England and other countries until recent times. We hope that concepts of inherent evil in people of a different colour are scoffed at today. This true story alerts us that racism is disgracefully still alive and well.

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Shocking and informative, brilliant.
Revisado: 03-14-22
Accepting ideas about a woman's place in the home and society, a man loses his family and doesn't understand why. In fact, nothing changes for him and he suffers, feeling that he doesn't deserve it. Suffering takes place and the least the main character could have done but doesn't is change his way of thinking. I'm sure that he eventually dies thinking that he was perfect and didn't deserve the suffering dished up by life. I liked the feeling of being in an Australian environment. The writer portrays this brilliantly.

Very amusing in language that is profound and beautiful. Vivid descriptions and exciting events but most of all I love the satire and the humour, turning a serious situation into lightheartedness.
