Historia
In the face of shifting weather patterns influenced by a changing climate, the garden can be a really confusing place these days. What stressors are coming next, and which plants will have the resilience required to stand up to whatever those prove to be? With no group of plants is that more essential to think about—or trickier to figure out—than with trees. Because of their long lifespans, a tree planted today will be reaching maturity in what may be a whole different world. At Mt. Which trees to plant in face of climate change
Revisado: 11-15-24
This thoughtful discussion provided me with ideas about choosing trees given that the age of a tree likely puts them in the path of climate change. It was interesting to hear a scientific take from Mount Cuba's George Coombs interjected with Margaret Roach's knowledgeable hands-on horticultural experience.

No one loves Christmas more than editorial assistant Eve Pilkins. But when her boss hits her with a huge deadline on Christmas Day, it looks like Eve's favourite time of the year might be cancelled. Armed with as much enthusiasm as she can muster, she travels to the coldest part of England, tasked with ensuring brooding author Edward Priest finishes his latest novel on time. The festive spirit at Cranberry Cross is as dark as the house itself; without a fairy light in sight, it looks like only a Christmas miracle can save this one. Will Eve be up to the task?

Historia
When Lucy Bagshaw's life in Boston falls apart thanks to a scathing editorial written by her famous artist mother, she accepts her half-sister Juliet's invitation to stay with her in Hartley-by-the-Sea, a charming seaside village in Northern England. Lucy is expecting quaint cottages and cream teas but instead finds that her sister is an aloof host; the weather is wet, windy, and cold; and her new boss, Alex Kincaid, is a disapproving widower who hired her only as a favor to Juliet.

Engaging Plot and Thoughtful Characters
Revisado: 10-22-24
Very pleasantly narrated, this novel invites the reader into realustic complexities of mother-daughter and sister relationships with a touch of warm-hearted romance. Kate Hewitt and her well-chosen narrators are always a soothing listen and a comforting escape from modern day life.

Historia
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

This is a delightful and funny yet introspective look into a young woman's journey of self-discovery. It has a refreshing plot that distinguishes it from formulaic romantic comedies. A good listen all around!

Getting native plants into the mainstream
Revisado: 08-11-24
A thoughtful and engaging discussion about the challenges and solutions for getting ecologically beneficial native plants into the mainstream. Especially hopeful is Garden for Wildlife's commitment to donating one plant for every plant sold. The donated plants are given to groups where access to nature and wildlife is limited. Shubber Ali's personal story of aligning his career to match his values is particularly inspiring.
