I’m so glad they made a book to follow up Sugar. I had to listen to it immediately. The writing and the performance were fantastic. They tied up a lot of loose ends from the last book. I enjoyed everything about this listen from start to finish.

If you are looking for drama and wtf moments, look no further than this book. Disclaimer: those sensitive to domestic violence may want to reconsider listening. It’s not a lot but it is in here. I enjoyed it. The readers did a decent job having different voices for the characters. Overall good listen 👍🏾

I love Gabrielle’s level of vulnerability when discussing her own challenges and experiences such as mental health, relationship issues, and loving the woman she is. Her analysis of being melanated in America provides “aha” moments along with her audience leveling up their awareness of the matters discussed. She gives you a new way to view certain topics each time. She approached this book differently than the first. It really is a collection of experiences, thoughts, and stories as opposed to a timeline recounting of her life until recent years. The flow was still great. Once again you come away from her book feeling like she’s your friend and cool aunt who has seen life and is very much still living it as her most authentic self. Thank you for another great read/listen Gabrielle!!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I’m a single female, I’m 27, and just moved out of the country for the first time in life. I am going through a season of expected & unexpected changes. Uncertainty is a consistent player in my life at the moment. This book was recommended to me by another 20 something friend going through her own self love journey. She said this was a great first book as she began her journey. I can see why. It’s straight and to the point while covering multiple topics of self doubt, forgiveness of others and oneself, loneliness, etc. A previous reviewer stated this book was for the 20 something crowd and I would say they are partially correct. It can also be for anyone who wants a more straight to the point reading and is in a transition of self but needs help processing/coping. If you’re someone who is trying to figure themselves and life out, this book can get you started.

At first the story line seemed a bit out there but as you continue to listen, you grow to like the twists and turns it offers as a soap opera. Really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for next season!
