There is hope, for it has been much worse

The fact that we are not taught about the crimes of the Soviet Union is an indictment of our entire media, university, and education system. It is not however surprising, as they lied about, explained away, and even cheered on the horrors all the way. Malice brings the receipts, and shows why hope is the best weapon in the face of even a seemingly eternal evil empire.

This should be required in every public school curriculum. This is an excellent lecture series that is a deep yet broad look at all aspects of American history and culture, going even as far back as the pre-colonial roots in Europe. I have small gripes with the later lectures, like the perpetuation of the myth of "Social Darwinism" as an actual intellectual movement and painting the Bell Curve as a book about racial inferiority. However, they make up for it by pointing out that eugenics was a progressive project and that FDR extended the Great Depression rather than ending it. These three presenters are fantastic, and I look forward to listening to more from all three of them.

Examines in detail the advantages and disadvantages of democracy in contrast to other systems, how democracies differ from each other, as well as central banking, free trade, the European Union, gridlock, and the implications for these and others topics on democracy.

A thorough explication of the modern left

This is most thorough look at the left since Roger Scruton's Fools, Frauds, and Firebrands. It misses with a few swipes at neoconservatism (Matt Continetti's The Right has a more informed take on that), but it is deeply rooted in its understanding of the relevant source materials of progressivism's modern incarnation. Pairs well with Carl Trueman's Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self.

The Highly Underrated

Jonah always attaches the preface "my highly underrated second book" to any reference to The Tyranny of Clichés, and upon listening it is certainly deserving of that preface. Jonah is at his best when he is shedding light upon lost and intentionally forgotten, obfuscated, or ignored intellectual history, as is the main project of this book.
