Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Historia
In this episode, my guest is Dr. David Buss, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology at the University of Texas, Austin, and one of the founding members of the field of evolutionary psychology. Dr. Buss describes his work on how people select mates for short and long-term relationships, the dynamics of human courtship, and mate value assessment — meaning how people measure up as potential partners. We also discuss the causes of infidelity and differences for infidelity in men and women. He explains how people evaluate and try to alter other people’s mate value as a means to secure and even poach ...

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

This type of work, work committed to helping your fellow man and work to end human suffering is so very important and precious. It is to be appreciated and shared with others. I bought a physical copy of this book for my brother for his birthday this year. Thank you forever for your tireless work to help children, and the inner child within us all.

A thoughtful transportation
Revisado: 11-26-22
I first became a Tool fan around 6 or 7 years old when I got my hands on a burned silver CD my older brother had written the word "tool" on in black marker. His various bands and projects have been intertwined with my life ever since. I'm now 25 and I appreciate this book and being able to share in his life experience, especially at this time in my life. I feel like it's a privileged peek behind the veil. It's contents are thought provoking and humorous. I actually felt uplifted and enjoyed listening to it while working this past week. Definitely made my (days) better and I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Historia
It is the story of 11-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

Toni Morrison reading her own book is the only way I think others should hear this story. It is such a powerful look at unsweetened human experience.
