Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

One of the greatest stories ever written.
Revisado: 06-13-24
If you've seen the films read this. If you haven't seen the films, you need to fix ur life and read this. Then or before watch the first two films which are as good as any film ever made. They are also timeless, and are just as good as ever each time. Seeing the films so many times actually made the experience so much richer to listen too. I could close my eyes and be there in my mind. Coppolla was remarkably true to the books to the point that I was amazed. Film translations of the books these does is done on the cheap, and it shows. Anyway...this was an amazing audible experience.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Stephen King is a genius. His ability to create amazing stories, and emotionally resonant characters continues in this one. My sense of awe at how his stories all overlap with each other defies explanation. The dark tower is at the center.

Historia
Some say that to change the world you must first burn it down. Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

joe abercrombie is the best
Revisado: 09-22-21
As I told my wife while enjoying this latest work, Joe abercrombie's books are like game of thrones if Guy Ritchie was co-writer. The dialogue is so quick and clever and at times laugh out loud hilarious. The reader is a master, and unless I'm mistaken has read every abercrombie book available on audible. I am absolutely convinced that Joe abercrombie is the best author of fantasy fiction to ever be published. Hard stop.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

He wants to redeem himself in Murphy's eyes and make enough money to quiet his rumbling stomach.

why so loyal
Revisado: 05-26-21
the part of this book and the previous book, that drove me nuts, is our hero's unyielding loyalty and subservience to the cop named Murphy. Time and time again she falsely accuses him of the most treacherous crimes imaginable, brutalized him, emasculates him, and he keeps coming back like a tortured dog to his master. She could have at least seemed real by apologizing one time when her raging anger was proved to be misplaced but she never does, and it never occurs to our hero that she should. That, more than werewolves and all of the magic is the most unbelievable part of this book.

Historia
Laytham Ballard once protected humanity as part of the Nightwise, a secret order of modern-day mages dedicating to holding hellish supernatural forces at bay, but that was before a string of sadistic ritual murders shook everything he believed in - and sent him down a much darker path. One that has already cost him most of his soul as well as everything he once held dear.

best contemporary fantasy series out there
Revisado: 05-11-21
The first two books in this series are the best damn contemporary, earthbound, fantasy fiction I've read. The characters are so well developed, and all of the magic seems so likely and believable. These books are gritty, dark, and they will make the squeamish run for cover. With that admitted the grittiness of the stories makes the characters feel real and alive...for better or worse.

Historia
Since its publication in 1960, William L. Shirer’s monumental study of Hitler’s German empire has been widely acclaimed as the definitive record of the 20th century’s blackest hours. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich offers an unparalleled and thrillingly told examination of how Adolf Hitler nearly succeeded in conquering the world. With millions of copies in print around the globe, it has attained the status of a vital and enduring classic.

Possibly the most important book of 20th century.
Revisado: 03-03-21
My reading of this book is long overdue. although military technological advances have likely ended the long Era in human history of megalomaniac despots seeking conquest, the threat of such leaders still exists, and the stakes have never been higher. Shirer's research and documentary evidence leave no doubt that Hitler brought he'll to Earth through his sheer disregard for humanity, and his hatred for the Jewish peoole.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Beautiful and purely introspective.
Revisado: 10-25-20
I absolutely loved this and all that was shared. I have always lived driven by many of these values and self prescriptions discussed. Thus it was beautiful to hear the works of another describe just this. Self-inventory, reality checks, the recognition to keep dreaming, and always checking back in for balance were so beautifully and poetically presented, I sincerely enjoyed this piece so much. Just as The Gentleman gave cinematic presence to the workings and unwritten laws of man, this I believe for many fans will provide further clues to their own self-realization, not to mention, the goal to always keep living.

worst writing ever
Revisado: 04-21-20
thought I'd give the ubiquitous dean koontz a try. bad choice. ridiculous plot, even knowing that the supernatural is this guy's wheelhouse. astoundingly generic characters, and the absolute dumbest thing I've ever read. I've read hundreds of books on audible, and this is by far the worst. quit after part one, and wished I quit sooner. I will never crack open another dean koontz book in my life. it reads like something written by a 12 year old with too much time on their hands. narration was ok.

Historia
Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends who come from very different backgrounds. When they are old enough, they begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective, led by Young-sook’s mother. As the girls take up their positions as baby divers, they know they are beginning a life of excitement and responsibility but also danger. This beautiful, thoughtful novel illuminates a world turned upside down, one where the women are in charge, engaging in dangerous, physical work, and the men take care of the children.

Thank you to all who put the work into this. Whew. I've walked those beaches, seen those women. I've hiked the mountainsides and shared meals there. What a sweet treasure this was to take me back and peek behind the curtains. Loved this and again, thank you for putting this out into the world.
