Historia
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Excellent story
Revisado: 04-19-25
This story gave a great lore dive into the Necrons and the behind the scenes political aspects of their internal interactions. The overarching story line had lots of action which managed to bring in multiple other factions. The bickering / backstabbing between Trazyn and Orikan was fascinating and amusing. The long timeframes helped convey the reality of a group that is effectively immortal, and seeing the background change as they stayed the same furthered that effect. Very interesting story. The narration was good with the different voices making it clear which character was speaking at any given time.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

An excellent audio drama version of the story. Voice actors did a great job at bringing the characters to life.

Historia
For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 04-08-24
The narrators do a great job of using different voices to differentiate between characters in the story, and conveying the emotions the character is experiencing.
The stories do contain some sentiments HPL held that modern readers would not share, so be aware of that.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Excellent adaptation of a fascinating hard sci-fi book
Revisado: 07-14-23
I greatly enjoyed this book. Hard sci-fi but remains accessible. Fascinating storyline and plot events. Several times I thought I knew how something was going to resolve only to be completely surprised. The implementation of the different characters’ voices was really good as it always conveyed that the language/communication issue was there without needlessly complicating the production.
I definitely recommend this book and this adaptation.

Historia
The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age.

Excellent narration of a great book
Revisado: 07-07-23
There are other narrations of this book by other readers, but Serkis’ performance is magnificent. Once started it is difficult to stop as he pulls you into the story. His renditions of the characters is excellent, and particularly evident when conveying a character with strong emotion. I really enjoyed his portrayal of Glaurung the dragon.
The Silmarillion itself is a great book, but has a very different tone from Tolkien’s other works. It can be a bit daunting at first but we’ll worth putting in some time to understand the underlying timeline and themes.

Excellent book / narration
Revisado: 01-15-23
The storyline is well-composed, adding a number of interesting details/storylines without contradicting the established information about the period. The narrator does a good job of creating different voices for the various characters, even the aliens. The music and sound effects are a nice addition, I only wish they had been used more often.

Excellent accessible overview of astronomy
Revisado: 11-18-19
I came across this book from following the author’s YouTube channel. Similar to those videos, Dr Smethurst’s passion for astronomy makes this book highly engaging and informative. I also enjoy that she frequently goes beyond a simple recitation of a scientific principle by showing how the individual observations leading to that principle were first discovered and subsequently integrated into a cohesive theory.
The book is very accessible to a general population audience.
It is not an exhaustive, comprehensive take on the topic like a textbook might be, but instead focused on a few important ideas such as dark matter, or the relationship between super massive black holes and galaxies.
Each chapter covers a different idea. Concepts are explained in an understandable way with relatable metaphors/examples that help explain the underlying idea.
My only criticism is that I wish it were longer — it is engaging enough that I found myself wanting to learn more about the topic being discussed in each chapter, or to have more chapters/concepts to learn about; e.g. the hypothesized planet 9 or dark energy. Perhaps there will be a sequel.
