I loved this. Such a good story, interesting, transporting, and entertaining. The narrators did a great job with the characters as well.

I’ve listened to the last 3 of the series because I enjoy mysteries and Richard Armitage’s narration so much—the first two were a bit disturbing to me. I greatly enjoyed this one. A pretty original storyline without the excessively disturbing elements.

She frequently cross-dresses to escape her loveless marriage and gain freedoms only men enjoy, but a chance encounter with a ragged, little-known poet named Shakespeare changes everything. They leave plague-ridden London for Italy, where they begin secretly writing comedies. Their Italian idyll, though, cannot last, and their collaborative affair comes to a devastating end.

Great Novel, Mediocre Performance
Revisado: 07-07-16
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dark Lady's Mask to be better than the print version?
Definitely not.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jilly Bond’s performances?
I'm not tempted to.
Any additional comments?
I really loved the book, but I couldn't deal with the narrator. She was ok when she was just narrating the story, but when she started to do dialogue it was cringe-worthy. I just felt like she made all the women--these strong, intelligent, proud women--sound hysterical and whiny.

Historia
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 04-14-16
What disappointed you about Fool's Assassin?
The narrator was awful. I listened to most of the other Robin Hobb books and the narrators were on average quite good. The narrator was painful to listen to. Didn't get Fitz or sound like him. I agree with other reviews that it was difficult to tell characters apart. And the monotone! Most of the time it sounded like a child reading something aloud that wasn't really sure how to infuse it with any cadence, emotion, depth, nothing.
Would you be willing to try another book from Robin Hobb? Why or why not?
Definitely, I'm pretty obsessed. I was disappointed with this, and am hoping I won't be by the next one.
Would you be willing to try another one of Elliot Hill’s performances?
Probably not which is disappointing since he also does the next book in the series.
What character would you cut from Fool's Assassin?
Shun. Absolutely painful and I do not see what the point of her was.

Historia
When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

Frustrating
Revisado: 11-16-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I would have liked a more compelling story, less creepiness and grisly details, and for it to be much shorter. There were probably more than 100 pages of nothing happening.
What could Robert Galbraith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
See above, and I thought the ending was such a disappointment. I expected much more.
Any additional comments?
I still love Robin and Strike, I really enjoyed their personal story although I found a few things really frustrating and implausible and ridiculous. I just wish the mystery had been done a little better, ultimately it became very boring. I would write more but I'm afraid it will contain spoilers. The narrator was perfect though - he did a fantastic job.

Good Narrator
Revisado: 05-05-14
Where does The Burning Land rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was really well done and the narrator did a great job with all the different characters and accents. My one complaint was that I don't think he researched proper pronunciation for characters' names and all place names.
Any additional comments?
I thought the narrator did a great job - at times I felt like it was too fast paced but on the whole it was very good. However, I prefer Richard Armitage for this series. The third book that he narrated was incredible.

A very fun listen--Richard Armitage is amazing and I love the story. I always feel guilty about reading/listening to abridged books, but it was kind of nice in this instance. Someday I will read the whole thing, but this was great.

Enchanting
Revisado: 08-26-13
Where does A Discovery of Witches rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I'm new to audiobooks and this ranks at the top.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything.
What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She was absolutely amazing. At first I wasn't sure, but she did such an amazing job with all of the characters' voices and all of the accents and there were a few. She did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. I actually did the e-book/audible mix so I went back and forth between reading and listening. I'm usually more of a reader, sometimes I read a paragraph a couple of times, or sometimes I skim, but a lot of the time I was actually enjoying listening to the audio version more because I thought she did such a great job with the characters' voices and expression.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole book moved me.
Any additional comments?
I started out very skeptical of both the book and the narration. There were some things about the book that I thought were a little cheesy, sometimes I thought something was dragged out a little longer than necessary, I was reminded of a number of other books along the way that I thought she was influenced by, but I think it was a wholly original work. I truly lost myself in the story and about halfway through I thought "wow, I feel bewitched and enchanted like she's put a spell on me." That sounds corny and I hate corniness but I really felt that way. I absolutely loved it, and in moments of tension when I didn't know what was going to happen, I was beside myself and heartbroken. I'm just hoping I like the next two as much and that I'm not disappointed. I am SO relieved and ecstatic that Jennifer Ikeda reads the next one as well. I hope she'll also read the third.
