Historia
Max Rupert has left his position as a Minneapolis homicide detective to live in solitude. Mourning the tragic death of his wife, he's also racked by guilt—he alone knows what happened to her killer. But then the former local sheriff, Lyle Voight, arrives with a desperate plea: Lyle’s daughter Sandy and his six-year-old grandson Pip have disappeared. Lyle’s certain Sandy's ex-husband Reed is behind it, but the new sheriff is refusing to investigate. When Max reluctantly looks into their disappearance, he too becomes convinced something has gone very wrong.

I wanted to love it
Revisado: 04-03-24
I really liked the first two books in the series, but this one was just too far over the top for me. The main character Max who is an inherently good person spent so much time fretting about what a bad person he was for his past actions, followed by justifying what he had done and described it more than once during this book , that I started not to care.
The plot while intriguing was also over the top and not believable.
I’m happy he found happiness at the end, but the foreshadowing on that was also heavy handed.

Entertaining and a good story
Revisado: 07-05-23
I don’t listen to a lot of Nora Roberts but really liked this book. Good character development with continued plot twists. There were a few things that seemed a bit contrived, how perfect the dog is and the never questioning live from Brooks, but over all enjoyable and I would like a follow up to see where they ended up

Historia
One weekend, while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife, Brie, vanished without a trace. Most everyone assumed Andy had got away with murder—it’s always the husband, isn’t it?—but the police could never build a strong case against him. For a while, Andy hit rock bottom—he drank too much to numb the pain, was abandoned by all his friends save one, nearly lost his business, and became a pariah in the place he once called home.

Just listened for the 2nd time
Revisado: 07-01-23
I listened when it first came out and was completely engaged. I found it in my library two days ago and didn’t remember it so started it to jog my memory. It came back to me, but I had forgotten the details and re listened. I’m glad I did, as there were plot twists I had completely forgotten. I have to admit I didn’t love the narrator who did Andrew as he seemed smug and vague/guilty. But I think it was a choice he made to come across as neutral. Worth a listen!

I wasn’t ready to be done when I finished, so I listened again. It’s a great story of budding friendships amongst very trying times, with a little bit of Ocean’s Eight added in.

Revisado: 06-19-22
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure when I first started listening, but the author did a really nice job of intertwining the stories and introducing another story from the past that helped drive the story from the present. I’m not gonna lie I got chills from the very last line of the book.

Historia
Cambridge, England: Outside the city, the badly decomposed body of a teenage girl has washed up in the flooded fens. Detective Inspector Chloe Frohmann and her partner, Morris Keene, must work quickly to identify the victim before the press takes off with the salacious story. Across the hallowed paths and storied squares of Cambridge University, the detectives follow scant clues toward the identity of the dead girl. Eventually, their search leads them to Deeping House, an imposing country manor where, over the course of one Christmas holiday, three families, two nannies, and one young writer were snowed in together.

I’m glad I read a review first
Revisado: 06-01-22
I read the review who commented that it was a complex story so they went back to the beginning and to check something and re listened from the beginning. I ended up doin almost the same thing and found it helpful. The story intertwined several people’s lives so it was essential to know who they all are. It kept me guessing and continued to surprise until the end.
