Another great Westlake story. The production was below par though as whole sentences were repeated eight or so times. Better than missing.

Another excellent Gray Man. I've read or rather listened to all in the series. You only wish it was true.

Turns into a courtroom story
Revisado: 03-18-25
Interesting story-line about 1930's Seattle and the depression. I gave up though about a quarter through because it became courtroom drama which I find very boring. It likely evolves into something more, but I couldn't get past that section.

Fantasy sci-fi
Revisado: 03-06-25
This is the first Tier One story I haven't rated 5 stars and I have them all in my library. I'm also a fan of hard science fiction and the time travel aspect of this book is pure fantasy. The action sequences are as well done as ever, but I had a hard time getting over the time travel to the future premise. As every physicist and astrophysicist that I've ever read says that travel to a place in time that hasn't happened yet is impossible. Even assuming it is possible, once there you would affect events and not be able to return to your past, as it would have changed by your absence. The theoretical physics of string theory and multiverse might work, but even then you would be in a completely different time line and never be able to return to your original universe.
Ray Porter as always does a great job of narration.

Great premise unfulfilled
Revisado: 11-14-24
The story had good potential and the setup was excellent. From there it gradually fell apart with too many implausible events. I finished it just see how it was going to be resolved. A cop-out to me and left a feeling of a wasted few hours.

Historia
On September 11, 1999, humanity made a monumental discovery in the vastness of space. Scientists uncovered an asteroid of immense scientific importance—a colossal celestial entity. As massive as an aircraft carrier and towering as high as the iconic Empire State Building, this cosmic titan was later named Bennu. Remarkable for much more than its size, Bennu belonged to a rare breed of asteroids capable of revealing the essence of life itself. But just as Bennu became a beacon of promise, researchers identified a grave danger.

An amazing and emotional adventure and achievement
Revisado: 10-29-24
I should start out by acknowledging that I am a charter member of The Planetary Society so am predisposed to like anything having to do with space exploration. And this story did not disappoint. Dr. or Prof. Lauretta, not sure which is more appropriate, has traveled so far in his life, figuratively and literally. Not many people can progress from a very dysfunctional family situation living in a single wide trailer in the middle of no-where in the Arizona desert and end up leading a 16 year odyssey to capture regolith samples from the near earth asteroid Bennu. Perhaps being out there and able to see the nightime stars without city lights helped him on his life's work. Many times during the telling of his story I found myself becoming quite emotional as the only spiritual feeling I ever have had is when I look up at the stars.
If you get this book, search on Bennu and you will be able to see what it looks like and photos of the material returned to Earth. As a curious aside, the return capsule landed in the Utah desert on September 24, 2023. September 24, 2182 is the projected date Bennu will impact Earth, albeit with a 1 in 76 probability (right now).

More adventure-thriller than SiFi

I enjoyed the book overall and would recommend, but if you wanted a hard science fiction story, look elsewhere. If you like people being chased along with some gunplay, you'll enjoy.

Designed to satisfy his emotional and physical needs, she has dinner ready for him every night, wears the pert outfits he orders for her, and adjusts her libido to suit his moods. True, she’s not the greatest at keeping Doug’s place spotless, but she’s trying to please him. She’s trying hard.

Doug, the main human character was such an unpleasant excuse for a man that we gave up after two hours. Albeit somewhat reluctantly as we still wanted to find out what happened or what the future has for Annie. My wife is planning to jump to the last hour or so and let me know.

Probably my last John MIlton
Revisado: 07-24-24
This was another good John Milton story as I've listened or read to five in the series. The exposure to the Japanese culture is always interesting, but I'm tiring of the continuing side story about John's battle with drinking and his going to AA meetings. OK, I get it, but I don't need to hear about it in every book. It no longer adds anything to the story.
