Quick read and interesting premise

The story doesn’t go where I thought it would, which made it interesting to listen to, and the depiction of the wealthy characters provides an interesting peek into what their psyches might actually be like. I found one of the characters gratingly annoying and the alliteration of the four adult characters’ names unnecessary as a device, but overall it’s a quick read and interesting premise. Not sure it will stay with me for a long while though.

Fun story about male friendship. And Glen Powell is eminently likable.

Great acting, good plot and storyline, although sometimes it could’ve used a bit more detail and exposition. The ultimate relationship wasn’t between Nate and Ash, who are the central heterosexual couple, but the friendships Nate has, so that was a refreshing change.

This book was funny and would make a cute rom com. It has some predictable parts, but having a woman take control of her life as a result of taking control of her sexuality the way this book has the protagonist doing it is an interesting concept.

Gives a lot of information about what to expect at different points of the trail while weaving an interesting and fun narrative. The narrator is the author, so she’s not a professional voice actor, but she knows her own story, and it was entertaining to hear from her.

I listened to this audiobook during my short weekday runs whenever I needed something to motivate me, and it served that purpose well. I even picked up a few tips and was reminded of good running practices I’d forgotten. The author isn’t a professional audiobook reader, so some of the inflection is a bit off, but it’s not terribly so. Overall I recommend this.

I enjoy reading about runners, and ultra running in particular, but there is a dearth of stories written by women, so I appreciate hearing their experiences even more. Catra is a legend and a colorful figure in ultra running, which is what drew me to her story. It’s a quick, inspirational listen, and it kept me motivated to work hard and train when I felt a little off.

This book is in the same vein as “Girl on the Train” or “Gone Girl”—a mystery with a narrator who may or may not be reliable. It kept me interested and guessing, even when there were parts of the narrative I found a bit implausible. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an engrossing, quick read.

Uneven stories and unpolished narration

The first and third stories were, in my opinion, better than the second, which featured a main character who was not entirely likeable. The narrator for all three stories was probably the least-polished narrator I’ve heard. In all three stories she mispronounced words or emphasized incorrect syllables and always sounded like she was reading from a book rather than voicing characters, which made it hard to get into the stories. All three stories seemed somewhat outdated. My favorite story was the third one, which featured the most relatable characters and would probably make a good movie.

As always, BA Paris weaves a suspenseful yarn that keeps the reader guessing until the final chapters. Anyone who enjoyed her first book will likely enjoy this one as well.

It starts out as what seems to be a fairly standard "I Know What You Did Last Summer"-type of story, but the plot twists and new information that comes out over the course of the book ensures that it's not quite so simple. I enjoyed the character development, even if I didn't find the narrator all that likable. By the end, I was rooting for her.
