Historia
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned. Billions have fled the glaciers. A cataclysmic war is coming. In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....

author is a science moron
Revisado: 02-18-25
He does not understand what an aquifer really is. When a scientific concept is a key plot element, the author should do some research to ensure he understands it.

He's a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He's also a knight errant who's wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: he'll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half.

Historia
Not since the publication of his own beloved classic Lonesome Dove has there been a novel like this one, another big, brilliant, unputdownable saga of the West from Larry McMurtry. Telegraph Days is at once a major work of literature and a completely absorbing read, not just great fiction, but fiction on a great scale.

Historia
Helsinki, 1947. Finland teeters between the Soviet Union and the West. Everyone is being watched. A wrong look or a wrong word could end in catastrophe. Natalya Bobrova, from Russia, and Louise Koski, from the United States, are young wives of their country’s military attachés. When they meet at an embassy party, their husbands, Arnie and Mikhail, both world-class skiers, drunkenly challenge each other to a friendly—but secret—cross-country wilderness race.

Insipid protaganist - ridiculous plot
Revisado: 08-20-24
The protaganist was so naive and and insipid so as to be completely unbelievable. Not even 2-dimensional. The cross-country ski race plot is ridiculously unbelievable. The other characters are at best 2-d stereotypes. Pinchot's narration is quite good, especially given the thin grueling provided by Marlantes. not Karl Marlantes' best work, maybe his worst.

Historia
One hundred and twenty years ago, Mark Twain left Huckleberry Finn’s father dead in a room crowded with oddities: a wooden leg, women’s underclothing, two black cloth masks, and more. Now, in a resonant and remarkable new novel, Jon Clinch tells the story of how the brutal and explosive Finn met his end in a room jammed with the telltale artifacts of his strange and mysterious life.

An amazing origin story for Huck's Pap and by extension Huck himself. The language and psychology both powerfully and eloquently shed light on Finn's monstrosity through his human frailties.

Yhe story, the language, the dialogue. alll simply stunning. i am gobsmacked. i had no idea that the origins of this classic movie deserves to be revered as a literary classic. The narration is no mere narration. It is a one-voice dramatic masterpiece.
