Mix of fantasy, fairy tale, and mystery
Revisado: 02-16-23
It was kindof like a fairy tale and mystery in one. It was well written and kept light when difficult topics could have been discussed more indepth, which I appreciated. Excited to red more of the series.
The music between chapters could have been shorter

not as good as the first 3 gets caught up a little too much for my taste in woke crap and earthly politics instead of just telling a good story.

Good story but little to much woke politics
Revisado: 05-12-22
decent book but the politics/anti American sentiment was a bit much. Also put to much woke crap in it I would have treated it higher. I don't read fantasy books to be brought back into modern politics in either side.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

good book to much vulgarity
Revisado: 01-15-20
I really like the story in the book The found that the liberal use of the f-word and a blatant disregard for any type of ethics or morals from the characters distracted me from the story.

Fantastic author, great story without vulgarity.
Revisado: 12-08-19
I am always reluctant to try new authors because I have a hard time stopping in the middle of a book even if I don't enjoy it. Because of all the reviews and audible sale I decided to give this first one a try. I am so happy I did. Will Wight is one of my favorite new authors, I purchased all the remaining books of his on audible and have enjoyed them all. I find the story line engaging, the characters fun and the magic systems unique. My only complaint is that he doesn't explain the magic systems in more detail.

Written for pre-teens
Revisado: 12-07-18
I bought this based on reviews but can not understand all the good reviews on this book. The writing feels like a 10 year old writing for other 10 year old's playing a video game. There are so many problems with it I don't know where to start. From the beginning you have a cadet who admits to not having a lot of combat experience to being one of the best above most full knights, to the idea of a very open patriot serving as a spy! I am good with suspending reality if reasons are given but not until halfway through the book does the author even suggest that his mutation might be making him better.
The plot is utterly predictable and so many cliche's thrown out that it is hard to listen to without laughing. Every battle is about torso's being separated or head's coming off, all the while listening to the main characters internal dialog that is so trite and silly that it wears you down. I got so tired of listening to how he was doing everything for his mother, I got it after the 50th time of telling me, I didn't need to hear it another 150 times, or how the liaison that he is supposed to check in with his spying demands that he check in at the same time every day while trying to spy on the crew. Then demanding that he not leave the persons side because that won't raise any suspicions. It's amazing what teenagers think can be accomplished in less than 20 days (or fortnight as the author would say). It felt like a comedy of errors with bad language.
In summary, extremely poorly written with no real plot and a B-Movie or video game feel. I am returning the book and would definitely not recommend.
