Historia
Alandra Michaels is your everyday, run-of-the-mill, ordinary witch. She doesn't have an affinity for an element, like her sister. She can't speak to the dead, like her mother. Even her familiar - Beezelbub the moth - is a plain, non-threatening insect. Alandra is fine with that; she knows what she is and what she isn't. Or so she thought... When a spell goes wrong and a gorgeous woman shows up in her living room claiming to be the Moon, everything changes for Alandra and her magical abilities will be put to the test. Can she reverse the spell and send Luna back to her realm?

Pleased, yet mixed feelings linger.
Revisado: 03-12-22
I think this book still lacks in many aspects. The story doesn't feel like anything new and does fall victim to cliches, but it wasn't too boring. I think this would be a nice book for readers looking for a nice and simple fantasy romance.

A terrifying, oddly pleasant experience
Revisado: 12-31-21
I wasn't sure what to expect when getting into The Sandman. I was about to drop it, but then I pushed through out of curiosity, and I'm glad I did! Phenomenal storytelling, interesting characters, and otherworldly (quite literally) concepts and themes were the gems of this story. Not to mention, amazing sound system and soundtrack, and outstanding voice acting was what made this experience memorable. Can't recommend this enough!

No words can describe how much I loved and enjoyed A Clash of Steel. I loved the adventure, the relationship between Anh and Xiang, the beautiful prose and Zeller's narration that pulled me into that world and made me a part of it. This audiobook has been an amazing experience <33

Historia
In 1345, China lies under harsh Mongol rule. For the starving peasants of the Central Plains, greatness is something found only in stories. When the Zhu family’s eighth-born son, Zhu Chongba, is given a fate of greatness, everyone is mystified as to how it will come to pass. The fate of nothingness received by the family’s clever and capable second daughter, on the other hand, is only as expected.

Historia
Dr Jekyll, a charming doctor explores the possibility of dividing the dark and light side of her personality, but in doing this she creates a monster, Eleanor Hyde. For many years she manages to live under the radar, keeping her dark secret unknown to those around her. However, gradually her evil side gains strength until Dr Jekyll is overwhelmed by Eleanor Hyde, to disastrous consequences. An exploration of human duality and forces of good and evil, this modern retelling is compelling and eerie and retains the disturbing nature of the original text.

Thrilling!
Revisado: 02-17-21
A wonderful retelling of Jekyll and Hyde that stays true to the original! Henrietta and Eleanor conveyed the message of the duality of man quite in the similar way the original novel did, and I truly appreciate that. I loved the bits where Eleanor Hyde interrupts Henrietta Jekyll's monologue/speech, a sign of losing control, but Jekyll feels for Hyde and I think the duality of the human psyche has never been truly expressed in such a way that makes you feel for both sides. Not to mention, when "duality" itself is common in our current society, you can't help but feel...touched—if those are the right words—but scared at the same time because it's something so relevant today that anything can happen.
To conclude, I did enjoy this book way more than I originally expected. The performance was superb and read just like a classic gothic novel (despite being set in a modern day world), and I'd recommend if you're in the mood for a short but thrilling audible drama :)

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.

Wholesome and cute (3.5 stars)
Revisado: 02-14-21
I've been looking for some mermaid...tails (pun intended?) for some time, and I'm quite glad I've stumbled upon this one. This was such a cute and wholesome story between Eliza and her grandmother, and the mermaid Eliza's grandmother had told her about. The plot twist in the end caught me off guard (I'm not exaggerating when I told you I SCREAMED) and it does have a beautiful message about loving something or someone, about things you loved that you don't want to leave behind.
The narration from both readers did feel rather flat, and can make the story a bit boring sometimes. I did struggle with this a little, but I'm glad I was patient enough to reach the end.
Overall, if you're looking for a wholesome read set in the winter filled with mythical creatures, then this book is for you :)

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Whimsical and Fun!
Revisado: 02-01-21
I've been wanting to "read" this for so long, and I'm so glad that I have! The fun and whimsical tale of Yui and her friends would cause me to chuckle and root for her as the story progresses. My favorite part from the entire book is how much it reminded me of my favorite video game, The Legend of Zelda (I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I screamed when I hear those references) and the references to other video games as well—they were just so endearing to me.
One thing that I didn't quite like, however, was some lack of depth in some characters. Sure, they had their flaws and interesting personalities, but as a character-driven reader, I think I'd love this book more to see more development between the characters rather than being setting-driven. I wish this book was longer since I was really invested in Yui's party, and I really wanted to see their chemistry and their friendship. Maybe I'm a little unrealistic here? Who knows.
Overall, I had so much fun reading this. Would highly recommend if you're in the mood for something fun, whimsical, and lighthearted in the fantasy genre.

Beautiful narration
Revisado: 01-21-21
(3.5 stars)
My main reason for listening to this is mostly because of Crome's reading. The way she reads is just enchanting that I'm pulled into the story the moment it begins. The, however, story is a little somewhere in between. There are instances where I loved it—the worldbuilding, the premise, and the concept. Other times, I just sort of lose focus because of how boring it felt. There are really great ideas here that I think need to be developed more I'd like to see more of it, and maybe I would if I go watch Carnival Row.

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.
