Taking the Piss
Revisado: 01-01-21
I loved McEnroe. Watching his tennis was so great. Listening to his commentary on TV is great, but this book is drivel. It is just a book on silly meaningless anecdotes that are of zero consequence. Pure rubbish.

Historia
Pete Sampras is arguably the greatest tennis player ever, a man whose hard-nosed work ethic led to an unprecedented number one world ranking for 286 weeks, and whose prodigious talent made possible a record-setting 14 Grand Slam titles. While his more vocal rivals sometimes grabbed the headlines, Pete always preferred to let his racket do the talking. Until now.

Focus is not everything
Revisado: 12-18-20
Sampras in his own words. He is a focused man - no doubt. Single minded. In the mold of all great single discipline sports. Golf etc. Similar to Tiger Woods or Nick Faldo. Comes across as extremely selfish. And egotistical. The fact that he was put on the graveyard court story etc. I was shocked. He is so big headed to think he was above that. He was lucky to be invited to Wimbledon. He also comes across as extremely boring. V talented. But he wrote this book and therefore as reader I have the right to make comments. Ultimately- pretty boring read. No personality. A great on the court - but apart from that - zero.

Complex & Topical
Revisado: 06-11-19
After both reading this and listening to it, it is an extremely time consuming affair. It is a heartbreaking story of jealousy and lack of communication and perhaps written to show us that as we celebrated the 100th birthday of WW1, we have not come very far in international diplomacy as we see similar games today between the major players in geo political theater. I believe this book was written by an acutely intelligent professor of History from Ox/Bridge, who is trying to send out a warning to anyone who would care to listen.... are we on the verge of war ? global conflict can happen by accident and bad communication... The book is a hard read, so many facts, so many personalities, names .... but i'm glad I read it... very worthwhile.

Not a true picture, rubbish
Revisado: 06-11-19
This book is empty of any real facts. I am a golfer, everyone comes out with Arnie stories on the golf course... none of which is mentioned in this very kind book ... none of the real stuff. Kind of rubbish, if you are going to write a book about yourself or someone else, best be truthful, otherwise why bother... Pure drivel, and I love golf and I loved the fact that he was a pure competitor. Loved that about him, he had his swing... that is awesome, but as I said, if you write a book, give us the real deal. rubbish.

Historia
In 2009, Tiger Woods was the most famous athlete on the planet, a transcendent star of almost unfathomable fame and fortune living what appeared to be the perfect life - married to a Swedish beauty and the father of two young children. Winner of 14 major golf championships and 79 PGA Tour events, Woods was the first billion-dollar athlete, earning more than $100 million a year in endorsements from the likes of Nike, Gillette, AT&T, and Gatorade. But it was all a carefully crafted illusion. As it turned out, Woods had been living a double life for years.

How do we know ?
Revisado: 06-11-19
How do we know that these guys are telling the truth ? the writers of this book have not been kind to Tiger... They paint a picture of a somewhat mean guy.... I have to admit... there are too many stories of him stiffing waiters etc with tip money... the stories of abuse from his father are just horrible. The story about the golfballs R & D for Nike and Tiger's commitment in saying he would play them in the BMW in Munich, the Nike guy had to fly all around the world to get the 60 balls to Tiger before the Pro Am on the Tuesday, having been notified on the Friday I believe in Ohio- Flew to Japan, then to Germany by Tuesday 9 am ... Tiger's idea of fun they said more or less... But is this true ? if so... that is mean... How do we know though? Big question mark on proof. Worthwhile albeit a very sad picture of a champion.

Historia
Narrated by Stephen Hogan and introduced by Roy Keane. In an 18-year playing career for Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United (under Sir Alex Ferguson) and Celtic, Roy Keane dominated every midfield he led to glory. Aggressive and highly competitive, his attitude helped him to excel as captain of Manchester United from 1997 until his departure in 2005.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 06-11-19
This is a good book, keano is obviously a person who attracted the press by the very nature of his personality. Someone who demands a lot from himself, far more than the average person. At the end of the book, we build a picture of a man who will perhaps never arrive at personel inward peace. He is a legend, a guy who I truly believe to be one of the greatest engine room players the game has ever seen, in the mould of Beckenbauer, Pele, Cruyff, those kinds of personalities. .... A good read,

Historia
Ray Walker had a secure career in finance until a wine-tasting vacation ignited a passion that he couldn't stifle. Ray neglected his work, spending hours poring over ancient French winemaking texts, learning the techniques and the language, and daydreaming about vineyards. After Ray experienced his first taste of wine from Burgundy, he could wait no longer. He quit his job and went to France to start a winery - with little money, a limited command of French, and virtually no winemaking experience.

pathetic french accent
Revisado: 06-11-19
The person chosen to read this book is not the right person. Surely they could have found someone who is bi-lingual and who can pronounce the french words properly. It's almost a mockery. The story is a good story, but the reader is terrible, I couldn't listen any further, waste of money. Yuk...
