Ridiculous

The narration was horrendous. A one star rating is more than it deserves. Very poor production and a big waste of money.

Historia
Everyone has a story to tell. But does Janice have the power to unlock her own? She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they had always done so, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 09-15-21
I listened to this book 20 years ago and never forgot it. Now, in the midst of this pandemic and my upcoming journey to Egypt, it seemed quite timely. It begins just before WWI, goes through the 1918 pandemic and continues with a wonderful historical jaunt through Egypt with engaging characters like Winston Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia. Completely entertaining! I really like this author.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Ridiculous and tedious
Revisado: 03-05-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I can't imagine anyone finding this book entertaining.
What was most disappointing about Brandon Sanderson’s story?
It was silly and disjointed
What didn’t you like about Angela Lin’s performance?
It was very amateurish. Not much rhythm to her performance. Lots of books start with the narration not being what you are used to but, you settle in and become one with the book. This one made me want to put the book down and never pick it back up again - which is exactly what I did.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Emperor's Soul?
I would send the book back to the author and ask for a rewrite. Once that was done, I would look for a different narrator.
