I'll buy any book Kelly narrates!
Revisado: 11-27-22
I loved this book from beginning to end. Now that it's over, I'm ready for part deux. Kelly has had a very interesting and exciting life, by all accounts, but the perspective she brings to her life is what made this book so enjoyable. She is a brilliant narrator, and brings energy and humor to every chapter. Bravo, chica!

Historia
If it can happen in show business, it’s happened to Jon Cryer. Now he’s opening up for the first time and sharing his behind-the-scenes stories in a warmly endearing, sharply observed, and frankly funny look at life in Hollywood. In 1986, Jon Cryer won over America as Molly Ringwald’s loyal and lovable best friend, Duckie, in the cult classic Pretty in Pink in a role that set the tone for his three-decade-long career in Hollywood. He went on to establish himself as one of the most talented comedic actors in the business.

Jon, please write another book ASAP!
Revisado: 12-07-21
This book is incredibly well written and Jon's narration is masterful. I would read any book that he narrates, but especially another one about his life and career. He tells great stories and is very generous and diplomatic when describing colleagues who have been less than kind or professional toward him. The "narrative" is wonderful, Jon. And perfect. I needed this book so much right now. Thank you.

Historia
A former child actress best known for her starring roles in Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire, Mara Wilson has always felt a little young and out of place: as the only kid on a film set full of adults, the first daughter in a house full of boys, a Valley girl in New York and a neurotic in California, and a grown-up the world still remembers as a little girl.

I had to fast-forward....a lot.
Revisado: 10-22-21
I really wanted to like this book, but it was just so tedious. Another reviewer said it was like listening to someone describe their dream, and I totally agree. I wish I had read that review before I purchased this book. Mara is not a bad writer, but she needs a better editor. The organization of this book is very hard to follow, with a lot of bouncing back and forth between past and present and reality and dreams. It is especially hard to follow when a chapter ends and you think a certain subject has been covered, but then that same subject comes up again and is rehashed in another chapter. I found this book difficult to get through, but fast forwarding allowed me to at least make it to the end. I'm sorry that the editors of this book couldn't help cut out some repetitions and help this be a better story. It was disappointing.

Historia
At 32, Faith Frankel has returned to her claustro-suburban hometown, where she writes institutional thank-you notes for her alma mater. It's a peaceful life, really, and surely with her recent purchase of a sweet bungalow on Turpentine Lane, her life is finally on track. Never mind that her fiancé is off on a crowdfunded cross-country walk, too busy to return her texts (but not too busy to post photos of himself with a different woman in every state).

Historia
It's the last day of 1984, and 85-year-old Lillian Boxfish is about to take a walk. As she traverses a grittier Manhattan, a city anxious after an attack by a still-at-large subway vigilante, she encounters bartenders, bodega clerks, chauffeurs, security guards, bohemians, criminals, children, parents, and parents to be in surprising moments of generosity and grace. While she strolls Lillian recalls a long and eventful life that included a brief reign as the highest paid advertising woman in America - a career cut short by marriage, motherhood, divorce, and a breakdown.

Phew! Glad that's over!
Revisado: 04-22-17
I chose this book because it had some great reviews that said it was delightful, etc. I think tedious would be a better description. Or depressing. I really did not like the narrator's voice--it was VERY hard to understand. I almost deleted the book before it was over, but I soldiered on. I liked the ending better than any other part of the book, partly because it was less depressing than the rest of the book, but mostly because I was relieved it was over!

A Little Pollyanna Goes A Long Way
Revisado: 12-28-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It seemed like there was always a glossy coating that covered every story. It didn't always seem sincere. Like her lyrics, this story seemed a little forced at times. Her song lyrics are good, but they seem very crafted for each occasion. This book felt like that.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It might have been nice to have someone else read the story instead of the author. I wish she could have been more honest when she described other people's bad behavior. There were some pretty awful situations that she dealt with, but she always put a spin on it to make it seem like she is a perfect and angelic figure who never gets angry. Maybe she is truly perfect and angelic, but it gets old in the narrative.
What about Linda Thompson’s performance did you like?
She reads well, but it sounded like she was reading a bedtime story to a child, rather than an adult reading her own story. It was a bit sugary at times.
Was A Little Thing Called Life worth the listening time?
Yes, but I wouldn't listen to it again. I even fast-forwarded through a few parts because the ending of each relationship always had the same tone---she said Elvis, or Bruce, or David did the best he/they could in every situation, etc etc etc. It just got old. Sometimes they didn't do the best they could. Sometimes they were just plain jerks.

An Honest Tale
Revisado: 12-28-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! It was well-written and had great details about life as an au pair in France.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the honesty with which the author told her story. I'm glad she didn't sugar-coat the feelings she had for the "Madame" of the house. The woman who was her boss was just a horrible person to work for, but sometimes authors like to pardon bad behavior in a way that seems insincere. I was very happy that this author revealed her true feelings and let the reader draw his or her own conclusions. It felt very honest and very sincere.
What does Lucy Floyd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is an excellent reader and her French is impeccable! I am fluent in French and was impressed with her language skills and her ability to provide new intonation for each character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
Any additional comments?
I have just purchased Part 2 of this memoir and can't wait to get started!
