My 6th grader was assigned this for a book report and I enjoyed going along for the ride very much. I love reading books she reads for school so we can talk about them, especially if I haven't read it myself or it's been years. I thought the book had good layers and discussion topics. I knew of the book from seeing it on shelves over the years, but didn't know anything about it other than that. Going in without preconceived notions helped me pay attention and try to enjoy the storytelling as it unfolded and make some guesses about a few things along the way. It has some 'not always easy to talk about' subjects and I think that is why I enjoyed it so much because they were done well. Though some references are dated after so many years, it was still relatable and made for a lot of great conversations with my kid that I hope continue as she has to finish her report.

It really helped get through the book to have Dan Stevens read this to me. Love his voice and have chosen a few books simply based on finding out he was the narrator. I didn't love the book, but was glad I finally read it after all the years I said I would. Finally to understand the story that has spawned so many movies and other adaptations.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started the book, just that I knew I was inspired by the woman after a project in a women's history class and this was one of the books my professor recommended to me. Listening can be difficult at times, but that is a statement about the times the author lived in, not her writing skills as a journalist. The lack of change following the end of the Civil War, the racism, sexism, violence, etc that inspired her lifelong crusade that changed so much for so many, and more are put down in her own words to try to be a record for future generations. This was written to be more of a historical record than anything else and was technically never finished, so if you're looking for a novel with beginning, middle, and end, this is not that book, but it is very powerful for those who want insight into the time period. I'm thankful for her family members who worked hard for many years in their attempt to get the book published and getting to find it as an audiobook was a pleasant surprise.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it. I listened sped up to 1.25x because I felt it was read a bit slow. Overall I enjoyed the takes on the stories and I'm glad I started them in order so I understood more about the Odd sisters and the connections the author is making between the books. They'd probably be fine if you picked and chose your favorite stories so you don't have to read ones you aren't interested in. I don't foresee ever listening to them again and I wish these audio books had been available to me on Libby, but since I got a good deal for them here on audible I don't feel too bad about paying for them.

I learned of this book from an online book club based across the US, but was surprised to find its setting is very close to home in more ways than one. At first, the familiarity with places I've frequented throughout my life made me hesitate about whether I wanted to continue or not but I continued to grow more curious about Anna and what stories would be told about the past and "present" throughout the book. I love mysteries, crime, and detective stories so the personal touch that came from familiar places added an interesting layer for me, not always positive, but curiosity drew me in. It was difficult to think back to 1993 and the fear that swept through my community from the events discussed in the book. That case had my mother drill into us what stranger danger was and when the killer was taken into custody not far from us, I never looked at the world the same. As a parent now, it still effects me and the book was a tough reminder on a personal level since my eldest is only slightly older than I was back then. My hesitation quickly changed though and I soon struggled to hit pause or stop listening because I wanted to know more and watch the story unfold in my mind. I found it very surreal to see a case I'm very familiar with weaved into a fictional storyline. I felt it was done well and added to a story the author was trying to tell. I laughed, almost cried, went a little to far down memory lane sometimes, but enjoyed it enough I have trouble giving it anything less than 5 stars.

I was initially hesitant starting The Savior's Champion thinking it wouldn't be my thing, but I love Jenna's YouTube channel and couldn't help eventually wanting to get sucked into the story I was hearing about. It was hard to put it down once I got to know Tobias and then I couldn't sleep wanting to know what was coming next in the tournament. This being the companion to it, I knew I'd have the same "trouble". As expected, I thoroughly enjoyed The Savior's Sister: brutal, romantic, dark, humorous, fantasy, and a great view from another character's perspective. I drug my feet waiting for the audio book to come out because I knew I'd have the same trouble putting it down and wanting to know the details from this point of view (and this way I can put my headphones in and get to it faster than waiting until my kids bed times!) The performance was stellar and I found I didn't want to pick up my physical copy of the book, but hear the performance (also, my toddler kept trying to throw my book around if I left it out and these books are way too big to risk getting clobbered with.) The narrator exceeded my expectations breathing life into the cast of characters. I loved hearing how she changed it up for the voices and it enhanced the storytelling for me. I'm glad I'd read TSC first and Tobias is still my favorite, but I very much enjoyed this companion to get so much more out of the story as I wait for the next in the series.

Holy crap. I don't quite know how to rate this. I wasn't sure what to expect because I love Jim Carrey, but also know he's a bit out there. I've never read anything by Dana Vachon but the idea of this book was intriguing. I actually enjoyed the first half and the blending of things that made you feel like things could be real (whether you want them to be or not). I like Jeff Daniels so I also enjoyed the performance. Eventually I started feeling lost despite and realized that things were just getting absolutely insane. I almost couldn't finish, but I paid for it and wanted to know where it ended. I have a signed copy of the book from a virtual book tour that I participated in shortly after release, but when I was having trouble keeping my 2 year old away from the hard copy I turned to audible to try to get through it and in the last section I couldn't help but laugh and say, "what the hell is going on?" on many occasions. I'll keep my signed copy on my shelf as one of the most bizarre books I've ever read.

I'm a big fan and the book intrigued me because I enjoyed Tina Fey's Bossypants. I enjoyed getting to hear the book and all the guest speakers she brought in. I'm sure I would've enjoyed reading the book and imagining her say it all in her voice, but I love how it was put together.

I enjoyed the first book, the second was ok, and really had me wanting this one to be better to wrap it all up. I enjoyed the performances as they helped get me through it, but I was a bit disappointed in the story. Sometimes I'd crack up a little at the voices the actors made, but they did a good job for such a long winded story that I felt was lacking something. I feel the author is a talented writer overall but wished for less words and more spark to end it all. I started and got part way through in January 2020 and was so bored I finally took a break for other books. Then the actual pandemic hit in reality and I had no interest in listening for a while because this book is nothing but plague and sickness trying to be cured--a little too close to home. That being said, I finished it because I bought it and I have reading goals to hit this year. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great.

I liked it. Narrator was good and tried to vary up the voices so it didn't get stale. I needed something that I could listen to off and on over a few days and not get too sucked in since I couldn't binge it and this intrigued me enough that I kept putting in on instead of music, but didn't get irritated if I had to turn it off. As a teen I probably would've had trouble putting the book down. As an adult, I enjoyed the world created for the story and I wanted to see where it led. I like Ky and Xander better than Cassia, but she's growing on me. I had the same trouble with Twilight but still ended up enjoying those. Now that I'm done with Matched, I'm interested enough to buy the next book.
