If you like that kind of thing. To be clear, I don't condone rape at all, including coercion, trauma bonding, "for your own good," falling in love with your rapist, all of which are in these books. Like TW all over these books.

But if you like the *fantasy* of rape situations, not just rapey, but legit rape, the these books are for you.

If you're going to have a Black main character...

I appreciate the author's attempting to put some diversity in their series, but they only alluded to the main character being black like four or five times in the whole book. She mentioned difficulty fitting into the horse world, he mentioned her skin because of the color of her lingerie, but that's really it. No discussion of culture, food, nightly hair care, seemingly very little knowledge of what it's like to actually be a black person.

I may be wrong, but this feels like an attempt to be inclusive while not actually knowing a black person.

7 different narrators tell the point of view from seven different characters. The beginning of each chapter tells you who's talking, and the different actors portray the different characters Through The Eyes of their own character. the story is interesting, the setting is rich and detailed, the characters are realistic and compelling. If you like fantasy and early guns, this book is for you.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this audible original, but it wasn't such a rich world and an interesting complex story. You'll have to excuse me as I go off and dig up the authors's other works because I thoroughly enjoyed both the writing and the performance.

This is the first book that I ever read that was over thousand pages. I read it my senior year in high school, which was over a decade ago to put it politely. There is a lot more dated verbiage than I liked. A lot more racist slang, racist comments, it made me feel much more uncomfortable reading it now than it did back then. The overall story is still good, but definitely lacking in people of color. A good steppingstone into what Stephen King is all about, but I'm not sure if I'm going to read it again.

Lorelei King is amazing, George Newbern is not

Lorelei King doesn't read books. She performs them, she is an actress, telling a story, not reading one. Her skill as an actress only contrasted with George Newbern's wooden reading, not acting, of the story. As an actress, it's easy to tell King's characters apart just by the cadence and tone of her voice; many of the male characters honestly sound male. This is not the case with Newbern. His cadence is of someone reading a story, the characters not unique. It was difficult to tell which Italian character was talking, although one was make and one female, and the accent itself wasn't great.

Keep King. She amazing. I'm not a fan of Newbern for this series.

The story is a perfect Mercy story. If you like this series, you'll like this one. A lot.

Great story. However, some chapters are told with one voice actor, stone with several. it's very jarring as the 2 voice actors have different types of choices for the same character.

I first read Watership Down in high school. Now as a high school English teacher with 7 years under her belt, I read it again with new eyes. It is just as fantastic as it was as a teenager. The characters are inviting. The stories within the stories interesting and relevant. The allegory clear and fantastic.

Also, I love a story with a bad guy whose motivations I can understand and get behind.

Good performance. Great story. Recommended.

This is not a full novel, but a very short series of scenes. While there is conflict and resolution, the stakes are nowhere near as high as the other Anita books. I'm very disappointed that this costs as much as the other books with the short time and the unsatisfying plot. This is very like the book Micah in length, but this book is entirely about sex. It really feels like Hamilton is getting her Meredith Gentry books and her Anita Blake books mixed up. With Anita I expect so much more action than this. I'm very disappointed.

However, I'm very happy that Kimberly Alexis has come back to the series. it's really interesting to view her take on how Anita has changed over the course of the series. I'd just reread the first couple of books and Anita is so much angrier and harder in the first books and the narrative voice follows that feeling. Great performance.
