It was okay
Revisado: 02-28-23
When I started the series I was a little disappointed by the full cast and sound effects. I decided to keep with it and it was a good enough story, however the characters were overacting made it feel cheesy like a prairie home companion episode. I guess I am just not a fan of that format.

Historia
In this classic fantasy novel from author Michael Ende, small and insignificant Bastian Balthazar Bux is nobody's idea of a hero, least of all his own. Then, through the pages of an ancient, mysterious book, he discovers the enchanted world of Fantastica, and only Bastian himself can save the fairy people who live there. Shy, awkward Bastian is amazed to discover that he has become a character in the mysterious book he is reading and that he has an important mission to fulfill.

Grew up with the movie hated the book
Revisado: 03-05-19
I grew up with and loved the movie I was fully expecting to like the book more than the movie as I do with many other books. The book did add some more detail and scenes to the movie, but a little bit more then half the book was terrible. Most of the second half was a total waste of time that made me feel like each of the last 7 hours would feel as long as all that came before it. To me it felt like it truly was a neverending story that just couldn't end fast enough.
Thank you to the movie editors the took out a ton of fluff and turned a terrible book into a good movie.
I only finished the book hoping that it would redeem itself it didn't.

Could be a good story but narrator kills the book
Revisado: 06-30-17
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tim Gerard Reynolds?
Just about anyone. I gave up shortly after starting because of how Gerard Reynolds pronounces words like calm and palm.
Any additional comments?
I have enjoyed many books by Howey but this narrator all but ruined another book by Howey that was part of a series I just had to finish. just cannot get past his pronunciation to get into a new book.

A good start to another series from Walker
Revisado: 06-30-17
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the series, however the use of the same narrator as Walker's timebound series gave me plenty of moments where I was not sure of which book I was listening.

Historia
We live across the thousand dunes with grit in our teeth and sand in our homes. No one will come for us. No one will save us. This is our life, diving for remnants of the old world so that we may build what the wind destroys. No one is looking down on us. Those constellations in the night sky? Those are the backs of gods we see.

A little slow
Revisado: 04-14-15
What did you like best about Sand: Omnibus Edition? What did you like least?
There was not much I liked about Sand. The think I liked the least was the narration.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The end resolved some of the story. I felt like it should have been a little longer to resolve more. I was glad it was over and do not feel like I have to buy the next book in the series if there is one.
Hugh Howey's other books like the Silo saga and Molly Fyed draw you in and you cant wait for more.
What didn’t you like about Karen Chilton’s performance?
Karen dropped the L from many words like. Fold, Told. I don't know if it is written this way but I found it a distraction that took me out of the story to think that something like "...he was toed..." should be "...he was told..."
Could you see Sand: Omnibus Edition being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
If it were made into a movie I would think that it would not disappoint me like so many other books do.
Any additional comments?
I have listened to and enjoyed many books by Hugh Howey this however missed the mark.
I took over half the book to get into it and the narration was just okay.

Historia
Kiernan Dunne abandoned his family ties to help Kate fight the Cyrists, and he's never regretted that for one moment. But he doesn't understand why Kate can't remember that night in 1893 Chicago, when she turned back to face the killer chasing them through the smoky corridors of the World's Fair Hotel. Kate placed the CHRONOS key around his neck and made his eight-year-old self promise to wear it always, and that's a promise Kiernan has never broken.
