Historia
Setting out into exile is never much fun, but Minalan wants to publicly comply with Prince Tavard's order to leave Sevendor for three years to spare his home any retribution. Instead of using magic to transport himself to his new lands, Minalan decides to leave cross-country in a wagon with his father. Down the Bontal River, Min and his dad make a stop at Robinwing, get snowed in at Barrowbell, and enjoy a few days as guests of Baron Astyral.

Another great addition to the Spellmonger universe
Revisado: 09-27-23
A great collection that dives deeper into the side stories that shape the construction of Vanador, along with the famously mischievously wholesome trip that Min and his dad undergo.

Historia
Having discovered her true heritage, young Gatina is embracing her evolving role as an apprentice shadowthief. It turns out procuring things that don’t actually belong to you can be rather exciting. But the first thing a good thief must learn is how to not get caught. If the evil usurper Count Vichetral snares Gatina or her beloved family, a truly unpleasant fate awaits. So her defiant father has deposited Gatina and her brother in the last place Vichetral’s men would think to look for them: stately Palomar Abbey.

Love this perspective, wish they would coordinate
Revisado: 11-07-22
I absolutely love the shadow magi and their family, and it's great getting more story from them I'm these books. I just wish the narrator's between all these side stories would coordinate their pronunciations better because it really is painful sometimes

Historia
After his eventful trip to the non-magical molopor in the distant domain of Anghysbel, Minalan’s return to civilization and magic finds him challenged by the changes wrought in the crypt of Szal the Yith. With nine distinctive sets of memories, besides his own, Minalan struggles to define himself in a turbulent time. With his brain buzzing with memories and feelings that aren’t his own and a list of vital tasks he must accomplish in order to save the world of Callidore from destruction, Minalan sets pen to parchment to chronicle his days in the heat of the struggle.

Maybe jumped the gun on this one
Revisado: 10-10-22
This seems like it would be a better compliment to the series after the up coming book. It felt strange to skip over a lot of the major events that, I assume, will be covered as the main plot in Marshal Arcane. It was borderline spoilerish, and kind of took away from some of the anticipation and mystery that's to come. I thought it was going to be more about Minalan's struggle to control his madness as he prepares for the next fight, which it is to a degree but not all how I expected. There was lots of depth into the politics and nuance to the world currently which may appeal to some, but I found it a little dry currently. It is a good story and performance as always, but I think I might've received it better after the events took place and was just looking for more content. The last hour or so probably saved the book for me, as it teases just how crazy the story might get. We'll just have to see what is actually covered next.

Rough pronunciations but great story
Revisado: 04-24-22
The pronunciations from this narrator were pretty off putting to me honestly, but I love the concept of telling the story from Gatina's perspective. If they could brief the narrator on how the names of places and people have been pronounced in literally every other one of the books it would be much more enjoyable.

Historia
After winning two wars against the Nemovorti, Minalan plans an expedition to The Lost Valley of Anghysbel, in the far north of his realm. It's there, in the caldera of a supervolcano at the edge of the tundra, he suspects many of the answers he so desperately needs might be hidden. The only problem is that thanks to the anti-magical properties of the jevolar, his spells won’t work; he’ll be without magic for the first time since he came into his Talent.

Historia
Minalan gets medieval! When you defeat the invading goblin army, get knighted on the field of battle, gifted with lands and gold, usually your happily-ever-after is...happy. But now that Minalan the Spellmonger has been ennobled and enfiefed, Sire Minalan has a task cut out for him that makes defeating goblins seem like child’s play: Moving his very pregnant bride and a few thousand refugees from Boval Vale into the remote, sparsely peopled Domain of Sevendor. But when he arrives, he finds the land withered from neglect, filled with superstition and suspicion.

Keeps getting better
Revisado: 08-10-21
I feel the writing has improved with each book so far. The story has always been interesting and the narrator does a great job, but the author tends to repeat details about things he's heavily explained already quite often. It's not a bad thing at first but it does lose my attention after the second or third time hearing the same descriptions. In this book, however, he's cleaned that up significantly, and I think the story was able to flow better as a result.
