Derek’s book is a must-have for anyone working to escape their life’s beginnings and seek a future that only lives in their dreams. In it, he shares his life’s path with honesty and emotion, allowing you to really connect with the lessons he shares. It truly was inspiring, and my only regret is that I didn't read a story like this earlier in my career.

Historia
This powerful, intensely dramatic book is the definitive account of the Haitian Revolution of 1794-1803. It is the story of the French colony of San Domingo, a place where the brutality of master toward slave was commonplace and ingeniously refined. And it is the story of a barely literate slave named Toussaint L'Ouverture, who led the black people of San Domingo in a successful struggle against successive invasions by overwhelming French, Spanish, and English forces and, in the process, helped form the first independent nation in the Caribbean.

A forgotten history
Revisado: 06-26-24
This book originally published in 1938 provides a detailed account of the history of Haiti and its path from French slave colony to independence. It’s told with details from the letters of the people who witnessed the revolution and gave account that was vivid and sometimes disturbing. The book also did a fantastic job of illustrating Toussaint L’Oveture’s victories and his shortcomings. A great listen for anyone who is curious about Caribbean history.
