Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

Historia
Hiram is a man with mystical abilities derived from the commonsense application of Scot-Irish folk wisdom and German Braucher magic. He possesses an arcane Bloodstone that allows him to see a lie the moment it is spoken. Behind the played-out farms and failed businesses are demons, curses, sorcerers, and unatoned wrongs. Bags of groceries and carpentry won't be enough this time. The job will take a man who has known sorrow. A man who has known war. A man of wisdom. A man of magic. The job will take a cunning man.

what an amazing trip back to another time.
Revisado: 01-25-24
Dave hit it out of the park with this one.
This book, besides the amazing storyline and strong , well developed characters took me back to my roots.
I grew up in coal country. Southern West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. So very many things about this book took me home to the people I met growing up and the stories my papaw would tell me about his days working the mines.
Then there's the cunning man bits that were all part of mountain medicine and hedge witchery back in those hills.
I really loved everything about this story and look forward to many more following Hiram Woolley.

Conan the Barbarian, the world’s most famous fantasy hero, returns in an all-new novel tied directly to the famous works by his legendary creator, Robert E. Howard. Set early in his life, Conan has left his northern homeland to cut a bloody swath across the legendary Hyborian Age. A mercenary, a soldier, a thief, and a pirate, he faces conquering armies, malicious sorcerers, and monstrous creatures—against which he wields only the sword held in his powerful grasp.

Now, most folks who know me, know that I love me some Conan. I always have, and have devoured everything Robert E. Howard, Lin Carter, and L.Sprague De Camp put out. I even read through more than a few stories in the universe that Poul Anderson, Roland Gree, and Robert Jordan had written, but to my knowledge, I had not read any Conan novels written by S.M. Stirling.
I was in no way disappointed.
Blood of the Serpent is a great tale set in the lands of Stygia, following Conan as part of the Red Brotherhood, where he leaves in search of Valeria, finding her on the edge of a great desert, threatened by a Dragon God that feeds right into the classic Robert E. Howard story, Red Nails and is included at the end of Blood of the Serpent.
Stirling does an amazing job, bringing the world of Conan to life while giving the storytelling an updated feel.
Audio quality, narration, and story, all were great, but being a fan of all things Conan, I may be a bit biased.
Rating wise, 5 of 5, hands down. If you love sword and sorcery, you’ll want this story by Stirling added to your list.

Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

An hour long infomercial on Bounty paper towels
Revisado: 12-08-21
Yup, that's pretty much what i'm getting from this. The narrators do a great job, the content is nothing but an infomercial. I made it 20 minutes in and that's all I can take.
I hate leaving a 1 star, but I don't even have cable. Not going to listen to an hour-long one when I don't have to.

Minds of Men is an excellent dive into the front line action of WW2 on the twisted tangent of a black ops program. I really wasn't sure what to expect with this story, but was happily impressed. Ezell's Flightline experience also shows through.
Well worth the time spent. A great story that will leave you wanting more.
