If you like very very pro narration be sure to play the “preview” before purchase. The storyline isn’t as good as the author’s other books.

I understand using “prison vernacular “ when that’s the context. I do not see the need to be base and vulgar in the other environments in this book. I slimed the message but won’t refer to friends due to language.

Some authors should not read their books.

The Texas drawl of the sheriff was jarring and a bit condescending. Yes Becky did brave things . However relinquishing control of some aspects of this production would have made it more enjoyable. She would also leave subplots hanging for awhile. Listener thinks she forgot the subplot then it’s suddenly reintroduced as if we should assume it was in the narrative without being mentioned during the silent spells. IE her pregnancy with Kevin, her marriage, What Becky went through and accomplished isn’t to be undervalued. I appreciated her and her exiled family sticking to the plan to help their younger sisters. Family is everything.

The book centers around abortion. If you do not like listening to a thinly veiled pro-choice agenda this book should be skipped.

But this book deserves them. This book takes the reader on a lyrical and moving journey. The narration is perfection.

Authors should not read. He thought he was beat boxing

I’m all for ephemeral but Jollett tried to elevate his already flighty auto bio with additional altitude by reading in what seemed one breathe for 8 hours. It’s a bit exhausting. The story itself is interesting. The narration left me annoyed and wishing it was over.

I’m on Ch. 12 and …

there have been at least twenty characters introduced along with a skipping timeline. It’s not an easy listen and I’m a veteran of spy/thriller/military genres.

Don’t go here for thick plot lines, complicated characters, or surprise twists. Do dive in for a light-hearted, funny, imaginative story that will take you away from the daily grind for a bit.

Listen to box set but intersperse with other listens

The plot, characters, world development are all there but listening straight through the entire set can steal the enjoyment. I became dulled to the emotional and disaster conflicts after 28 plus hours. I’m stopping and will listen to book 3 after I’ve cleaned my palate with something else. I commend the author for not needing cuss words, sex, or explicit moments to make this story work.

Explicit content beyond storyline needs

I’m a grown adult. I listen to most everything. But this? I won’t continue listening to. There are sexual scenarios, explicit and usually rarely used words related to sex/drugs/kids. It’s revolting.
