Historia
Los Angeles, 1941. Violinist Maddie Kern's life seemed destined to unfold with the predictable elegance of a Bach concerto. Then she fell in love with Lane Moritomo. Her brother's best friend, Lane is the handsome, ambitious son of Japanese immigrants. Maddie was prepared for disapproval from their families, but when Pearl Harbor is bombed the day after she and Lane elope, the full force of their decision becomes apparent. In the eyes of a fearful nation, Lane is no longer just an outsider, but an enemy. Maddie follows when her husband is interned at a war relocation camp.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

A syrupy tale of two entitled, immature people who believe Brit’s owe them, I shouldn’t have bought it! Life has many SS bumps and you should not expect a free ticket ! Be thankful for the small things.

Historia
The name Captain James Cook is one of the most recognisable in Australian history - an almost mythic figure who is often discussed, celebrated, reviled and debated. But who was the real James Cook? This Yorkshire farm boy would go on to become the foremost mariner, scientist, navigator and cartographer of his era, and to personally map a third of the globe. His great voyages of discovery were incredible feats of seamanship and navigation.

Have you met James Cook?
Revisado: 12-01-22
Good read about the discoveries of James Cook. I can really feel the fear of he and his crew while trying to get out of the Great Barrier Reef that surrounds most of Australia. It was a very good telling of his overall patience and good judgement.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Great and Informative Read
Revisado: 08-30-22
This was a rich story of migration of the Blacks in the south to the north or west. I’m an older American and came to Texas in 1949. My family didn’t have the attitudes fostered in the south but I do remember separate drinking fountains at our grocery store. I didn’t understand the reason for those fountains but I observed the unjustified hurt to people who were colored. I minored in history in college and became a teacher. I wish I had listened to this book so I could have done a better job teaching about the Great Migration. It was touching and eye opening. It was well written and well told. I highly recommend it! Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Politics 👎🏽
Revisado: 05-13-22
The story was pretty good but I didn’t like the way the character Johnny hated the USA and spoke so badly about Ronald Reagan!
America love it or leave it….Johnny cut his finger half off and dodged the draft only to move to Canada. I didn’t care for that attitude, I love my country & I of Puritan ancestry too. God bless America!

When The Far Pavilions was first published 19 years ago, it moved the critic Edmund Fuller to write this: "Were Miss Kaye to produce no other book, The Far Pavilions might stand as a lasting accomplishment in a single work comparable to Margaret Mitchell's achievement in Gond With the Wind." From its beginning in the foothills of the towering Himalayas, M. M. Kaye's masterwork is a vast, rich, and vibrant tapestry of love and war that ranks with the greatest panoramic sagas of modern fiction.

I loved this novel ! There are so many ways I connected with this book ! I love history, I am a teacher, retired, but didn’t even go to college until I was 49. I related to Bennie”s efforts as a new teacher & desires to capture her student”s interest. I loved the cherished family ties and even
Bennie” s teenage experience. The story touched my heart in every way. A great gift for avid readers ! Sara

Historia
Doris Kearns Goodwin's classic life of Lyndon Johnson, who presided over the Great Society, the Vietnam War, and other defining moments in the tumultuous 1960s, is a monument in political biography. From the moment the author, then a young woman from Harvard, first encountered President Johnson at a White House dance in the spring of 1967, she became fascinated by the man - his character, his enormous energy and drive, and his manner of wielding these gifts in an endless pursuit of power.

A Real Eye Opener!
Revisado: 10-18-21
The author reveals a tormented man who obviously was driven to have control in all areas due to his experiences in his early life. I was young when he took his place as President and didn’t realize he was so insecure. I enjoyed this book for all the information gained as a history lover!

Historia
Goodwin describes the broken friendship between Teddy Roosevelt and his chosen successor, William Howard Taft. With the help of the "muckraking" press, Roosevelt had wielded the Bully Pulpit to challenge and triumph over abusive monopolies, political bosses, and corrupting money brokers. Roosevelt led a revolution that he bequeathed to Taft only to see it compromised as Taft surrendered to money men and big business. The rupture led Roosevelt to run against Taft for president, an ultimately futile race that gave power away to the Democrats.

What a Great Book!
Revisado: 08-21-21
I loved this book and I learned so much about Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft and the Golden Age of Journalism. I’m a retired teacher of mostly 5th grade language arts, reading and U.S. History. Although I taught about the Progressive Era and about the muckrakers and used Sinclair Lewis as a source for the expose of the meat-packing industry, I learned so very much more about era. Wonderful writing and marvelous reading experience! Sara Slamp
