Fairly typical of an abusive childhood.
Revisado: 02-12-25
I've never really understood why children who were abused so badly during childhood spend the rest of their lives trying to make a parent love them. Weakness? Hope? I just had a hard time relating to the mentality of Stephanie. I will congratulate her on her successful life despite her mother doing all she could to keep her beat down her entire life.

Well, I gave up ...
Revisado: 12-16-24
With 6 hours left, I threw in the towel. I just could not relate to anyone in this book. There was too much detail into things that didn't matter. I think that was my turn off. I've read several by this author and they were good ... this one was just not for me.

Historia
Long days of boredom in confinement, the general inefficiency of prison bureaucracy and a critically over-stretched prison service. The tediousness of prison life kicks in for prisoner FF8282, also known as author Jeffrey Archer, in the second volume of his best-selling series The Prison Diaries. Still his fellow inmates show inspiring spirit and courage, amid an otherwise gloomy prison landscape, revealing that even in the darkest hours light can always be found.

This is a three-part series and you need to read all three books in order to get the best out of the story. I found it to be a real eye-opener! The narrator was exceptional!

A flicker of light almost appears at the end of the tunnel for prisoner FF8282, as he is transferred to North Sea Camp near Boston, Lincolnshire, a D-category prison. Under a less strict regime, the prisoners can enjoy a more relaxed set of rules, while slowly preparing to someday rejoin the world outside the walls. However, a minor breach of conditions gets him sent off to the notorious HMP Lincoln facility for twenty-two days, where more traumatic experiences await. "Heaven" is the third book in Jeffrey Archer’s bestselling series The Prison Diaries.

This is the third book in a series and you really need to read all three in order. Not being familiar with the prison system, I was astounded at what all goes on in prison. I just had no idea. Eye opening, entertaining and I found myself chuckling in several places. Definitely worth the credits!

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

The world is full of nutcases ...
Revisado: 10-22-24
How any of the children of this crazy couple were able to escape this nuthouse is nothing short of a miracle. It was one of these books that I could not stop listening to so I could find out what happens next because I was pretty sure someone was going to die at the hands of the father or the son, Sean. The son (brother to the author), Sean, who is such a bully to all of the children, is so evil, yet his parents are blind and defend his every sin. He just did anything and everything with no consequence. There is a pretty rough scene where he kills his own dog. So sick. Soooo sick. Yet the daddy was living by the bible and raised them according to his beliefs. Wackos at their finest.

Historia
Prisoner FF8282 gazes out from confinement on what he deems must be a glorious summer’s day, rays of sunlight bursting through the barred windows of his cell. Within the thick prison walls separating society from its dangerous criminals, a multitude of harrowing fates unfold, seldomly explored by the public. First-time offenders thrown in cells with hardened criminals, several inmates becoming heroin addicts and a system riddled with flaws. However, even in prison the sunlight cannot be kept out.

What on earth is this book about???????
Revisado: 09-11-24
How has this book gotten a 4.7 stars rating is beyond me. I listed to about 40 of the 200+ chapters and I've never read such garbage in my life. MANY MANY WORDS ... nothing gets said. The narrator was also pathetic. I'm not sure exactly how to explain his style ... almost sounds like he's rushing and breathless and every sentence is an urgent message. He is easy to understand, I will give him that, but it's just odd to me. The language is also out of place for me. The word "tits" is used several times and seems so inappropriate. The F word several times and adults talking to young teens about sex so casually ... it's just not anything I am interested in. I returned it ... got my credit back.

Historia
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.
